Lisa Scaffidi

Perth Lord Mayor Lisa Scaffidi has joined the Heart Foundation’s Go Red for Women campaign and the Healthy Heart Challenge to help raise awareness that heart disease is the leading cause of death for women in Australia.

Ms Scaffidi was elected as the Lord Mayor of the City of Perth in October 2007 after serving seven years as a councillor. Ms Scaffidi is the 17th Lord Mayor of the City of Perth and the first woman to have been elected to this position.

For 10 years before her election she was Executive Director of the Western Australian office of the Committee for Economic Development of Australia. She also has a background in hospitality, marketing and property development.

Ms Scaffidi is committed to ensuring Perth grows and develops as a vibrant and dynamic globally connected city of regional and international significance, while retaining its unique, natural beauty and its reputation as one of the world's most liveable cities.

As well as promoting Go Red for Women messages in the community, Ms Scaffidi will also take part in the free 10-week Healthy Heart Challenge, starting on 1 June 2011.

Week 6 update

Being physically active is an important part of leading a healthy lifestyle, as Lord Mayor I get a lot of physical activity in my day to day role and really enjoy walking around our beautiful city as much as I can.  Although I am driven to many appointments we walk to a few and on the mornings I don't have an early start I have a treadmill in the house or walk around East Perth where I live.

The biggest challenge for me seems to be to strike the right balance between work and healthy active lifestyle.

My most rewarding experience to date has been improving my health both now and for the future.

I have noticed changes in my health and a my energy levels have been boosted.

Week 9 update

One week to go, and my Challenge is still going strong. I have been walking a lot in the mornings and some evenings for the last 2 weeks. And I have been feeling more energetic for it!

I did expect the Challenge to be a little harder due to my varying work schedule but I have managed to stay on top of it!

I am very proud of what I have achieved and I wouldn’t change a thing!
