The Paediatric Intensive Care Society (PICS) was founded in 1987 as a multidisciplinary forum for those involved and interested in paediatric intensive care. In 2020, PICS changed its name to the Paediatric Critical Care Society (PCCS) to reflect the changing nature of the speciality and in recognition of the clinical reality that many members work across the spectrum of paediatric critical care (paediatric intensive care, transport and high dependency care as well as operational delivery networks).
Paediatric critical care is a small speciality with its own unique challenges. The speciality’s strength lies in its multi-professional ethos and the close working relationships between professionals. The Paediatric Critical Care Society (a Registered Charitable Incorporated Organisation, registration number 1146515) is the main professional, multi-disciplinary, membership organisation representing the interests of those delivering paediatric critical care in the UK.
