Background FCEI Africa
Family Centred Early Intervention is the gold standard for intervention strategies for deaf and hard of hearing infants and children. In 2012 the first International FCEI conference was held in Bad Ischl, Austria. An important outcome of this congress was the International Consensus Statement which can be viewed here.
The developing world has a unique face. One that sees the overwhelming burden of poverty and disease consuming the bulk of medical and social services. Hearing loss is consequently not prioritized, resulting in many deaf children, not having equal opportunities to their hearing peers. This conference, the first of its kind, aims to see quality information imparted to our developing world colleagues, whilst allowing opportunities for sharing knowledge and experience, to further inspire and encourage Family Centred Early Intervention in these diverse and unique settings.
