RESEARCH AWARDS

Authors who submit abstracts to the CPS Annual Conference 2023 may be eligible for a number of research awards based on their submission category. To be considered for an award, you must apply by selecting the appropriate category in the awards section of the online abstract submission form.

Awards for Excellence

Prizes are awarded at the CPS Annual Conference 2023 to the best trainee research presentations in two categories. Principal authors must be present to receive these awards. To win, the principal (presenting) author must have had a key role in the design and execution of the work and be eligible under one of the following categories at the time research was completed:  

Category 1 - She/he is a: 

• resident in the first three years of core paediatric training (PGY1, 2, 3 paediatrics) or a fourth general paediatric year (PGY4 paediatrics).
• resident who has entered a fourth year of subspecialty training (PGY4 paediatric subspecialty) but completed research in core paediatric training years.
• medical student. 

Category 2 - She/he is a:

• resident in paediatric subspecialty training (PGY4, 5 or 6) or a clinical fellow in paediatric subspecialty training who has done this research as part of their program.

Subspecialty Research Awards

Awards are also available for the best subspecialty research abstracts presented by a trainee in the following areas. Principal authors must attend the CPS Annual Conference 2023 to receive their award, as abstracts are evaluated during the conference.

Neonatal Trainee Research Award

The Neonatal Trainee Research Award requires the following conditions be met and corresponding documentation be submitted:

Eligibility Rules

• The trainee must be the first author and have significant contribution to the conceptualization, execution, analysis and presentation of the research.
• Research must pertain to the area of Neonatal/Perinatal Medicine and may be clinical, translational or basic science.

• Research must be in the completion phase and be ready for presentation at the time of abstract submission.
• Trainee or their supervisor must be a CPS NPM Section Member.
• Award recipient will be required to travel to the CPS Annual Conference to present their research as an oral presentation during the NPM Original Science Abstract Presentations.

Required documentation

1. Trainee’s Updated CV – maximum 4 pages
2. Supporting Letter from the trainee’s supervisor describing trainee’s role in the research and highlighting their contributions, originality, and significance of their research project to the field of NPM. Letter should include the supervisor’s letterhead and the name of the award being applied for (NPM Trainee Research Award).

Resident/Trainee Award

The Trainee Award for clinical case reports aims at increasing learner participation at the conference, while also providing trainees with an opportunity to share the interesting and educational clinical cases they have encountered with paediatricians from across the country. To reward outstanding trainee case contributions, the presenting author for each of the three top-scoring submissions receive complimentary registration to the conference.

Note: Medical students or trainees in a Canadian general paediatrics program are eligible, but subspecialty residents and fellows are not.
