We
live and work in a time of frequent change, diverse crises, globalization,
technological innovations, increased diversity, scandals, and political and
social unrest. To be able to stand the
test of time and be effective, individuals and organizations need to be
resilient, undergo transformation, and be catalysts for positive change. These demands raise
some important questions:
- What
kinds of individuals and organizations are more likely to be resilient in this
environment? Are the traits and capabilities previously associated with
resilience still valid or is something new required?
- What
kinds of transformations do individuals and organizations need to undertake to
be effective? Is there something new over the horizon that we need to prepare
for?
- What
does it mean to be transformative and to make a positive difference in this
environment? Are there new implications for understanding character, culture, identity,
and for designing effective organizations?
We
will address these questions in Salt Lake City, Utah. The conference will be
held at the Sheraton Salt Lake City Hotel. Utah is home to some of the most beautiful national parks, such as Bryce
Canyon, Arches, and Zion that have weathered the test of time.
Our
2018 JMI Scholars will be Jane E. Dutton (University of Michigan), and Nandini
Rajagopalan (University of Southern California). The submission site will open on September 11th,
2017, and the deadline for submissions is October 2nd, 2017. For
further questions, you can contact the Program Chair at Sarah.Kovoor@ucdenver.edu.
We
look forward to welcoming all of you in beautiful Salt Lake City for WAM 2018!
