Guidelines for Abstract Preparation and Submission

Thank you for your interest in submitting an abstract for RHIS’s 2023 Annual Scientific Meeting being held at the Union League in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. All submissions must comply with the following guidelines to be considered for inclusion in the Annual Scientific Meeting program. Failure to observe these requirements may result in submission errors or rejection of the abstract during the review process. The Society’s education committee reviews all abstracts in a blind-review process. Acceptance of abstracts is based on the content of the submission, available space, and overall program balance. We look forward to your submission.

THE CALL FOR ABSTRACTS IS NOW CLOSED, THANK YOU FOR THE RECORD NUMBER OF SUBMISSIONS

All abstracts must be submitted online by Tuesday, January 24, 2023, 12:00 PM EST. Authors will be notified if abstract is accepted for oral or poster presentation the week of March 6, 2023. It is the responsibility of the submitting author to advise co-authors of the result. The allotted time for abstracts accepted for oral presentation will depend on the number of abstracts received. The presenting author will be required to register for and attend the meeting.

Please prepare you abstract document using the specifications below:

  • Submit abstract in Microsoft Word or PDF format.
  • Abstracts must not exceed one page.
  • Abstract page size must be set at 8.5” X 11”.
  • Single spaced using 12-point Arial font.
  • Double space between paragraphs.
  • Set the page guides for 1” margins (top, bottom, left, and right).
  • Alignment must be left and right justified.
  • BOLD and CAPITALIZE the abstract title.
  • Do not include author(s) names, degrees, programs, or institutions on the abstract.
  • Tables or graphs should be constructed to be clearly readable.
  • Abstract word count must not exceed 400 words total. This includes words contained in all figures/tables.

Abstract should be organized according to:

  • Introduction or Background/Purpose,
  • Methods,
  • Results, and
  • Discussion/Conclusion.

Topic for Presentation: You will choose the category that best fits your abstract for Basic and Clinical presentations. The program committee reserves the right to reassign categories as needed to even out the program.

  • Craniofacial/Head and Neck
  • Breast
  • Trunk and Extremity
  • Cosmetic
  • Basic Science

Additional Information:

  • Abstracts will be judged on originality (uniqueness/novelty), scientific merit, relevance to the field of plastic surgery, and scholarly value.
  • Any abstract submitted with incomplete or pending results will not be accepted.
  • Medical Students may submit an abstract if a professor or other MD are also authors on the abstract. If you are selected to present, the professor or another MD author must be at your presentation.
  • An author release form is required for each abstract submitted; this is included in the online application.
  • Involvement of ineligible companies: Per the Standards for Integrity and Independence in Accredited Continuing Education, the Robert H Ivy Pennsylvania Society for Plastic Surgery will not allow the involvement of any employee or owner of an ACCME-defined ineligible companies in the development, coordination or presentation of content during our accredited activities including the recruitment of speakers/faculty, the writing of abstracts, and/or the creation of presentation materials.

Abstract Competition:

  • All oral abstract presentations will be eligible for the abstract competition. First and second place will be awarded in Clinical and Basic Science categories. The George Manstein, MD Award is presented to the overall best abstract. Authors must be present at the reception immediately following the scientific sessions. If the author is not present at the awards reception, the award will be presented to the author/abstract with the next highest score.

April 22, 2023 Annual Scientific Meeting Educational Sessions
