The growing role of environmental, social, and corporate governance (ESG) criteria in mainstream finance and investment - a trend that has been reinforced by the Coronavirus pandemic - potentially represents vast potential to drive sustainable growth in Africa. Harnessing this requires greater awareness of the case for sustainable finance on the continent, and effective strategies to connect investors with the right opportunities.

Led by Kenya, East Africa offers significant potential for strong returns, which also drive impact and long-term, sustainable growth.

This session will explore the case for sustainable investment in the region, and address key barriers to unlocking its potential.

Programme:

Discussion themes:

  • The right policy environment: How Kenya is leading the way on sustainable investing
  • Understanding the market to harness opportunities: a regional perspective
  • The role of private capital in driving sustainability and meeting the SDGs
  • Development finance as a catalyst for sustainable investing
  • Which sectors offer the strongest opportunities
  • Understanding and managing risk in East Africa
