The Pulmonary Hypertension Association’s PH Professional Network (PHPN) Symposium brings together hundreds of allied health care professionals every two years to network and earn continuing education credits. This year’s Symposium was online because of the pandemic. The event, “PHiguring Out the Puzzle: Pieces to Innovative, Patient-Centered Care,” offers online education sessions about advancements in PH research and care. Registrants may access recordings of all educational sessions on the PHPN Symposium portal through Jan. 4, 2022.

Navigating Difficult Discussions in PH
Featuring Keynote Speaker: Rana Awdish, M.D., FACP, FCCP

Learn how to master sensitive, personalized conversations between PH-treating teams and patients and families. Discover strategies to navigate the course of the illness in a thoughtful, proactive way. Learn paradigms to understand individual goals as they change over time. Get tips to ensure compassionate, effective conversations with patients and families and incorporate these strategies into your own discussions. Plus, find out how skillful conversations early on could lead to prompt involvement of palliative care services.

Rana Awdish, M.D., is director of the PH Program at Henry Ford Hospital and a critical care physician. Her work focuses on improving the patient and provider experience through connection and communication. Her narrative nonfiction memoir, “In Shock: My Journey from Death to Recovery and the Redemptive Power of Hope” is a critically acclaimed national bestseller. Her book is featured in medical school curricula in the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom. Dr. Awdish has received the Schwartz Center’s National Compassionate Caregiver of the Year Award, Physician of the Year by Press Ganey, and a Sidney Prize for her writing from the New York Times.
