Advocacy Day

When medical professionals speak out, members of Congress listen. Join the Pulmonary Hypertension Association (PHA) on Sept. 30 to advocate on behalf of the pulmonary hypertension (PH) community through virtual visits with congressional offices. No prior advocacy experience needed.

"[Participating in] Advocacy Day with fellow PH professionals was so rewarding! It was even better the second time. As a team co-leader, I had to get out of my comfort zone and take the helm. Once we started, there was no stopping us. We expressed the needs of our patient community in a way that was engaging and passionate."

Schedule

Thursday, Sept. 30

11 a.m. to noon EDT: Advocacy Day training
1–5 p.m. EDT: Advocacy Day meetings

Legislative

Visits

Advocates will be placed into groups based on addresses provided at registration. Each group will be facilitated by a PHA staff person or veteran advocate.

PHA will schedule three to six virtual legislative visits for each group according to congressional districts. PHA will provide schedules and meeting links so each group can move together virtually from meeting to meeting. Groups will provide a PH overview and ask members of Congress to take action to improve life for people living with PH, such as improving access to treatment or funding research.

Advocacy Training

Hosted by PHA’s vice president, advocacy and patient engagement, the virtual training will cover:

  • What to expect in a legislative visit.

  • How to conduct a virtual legislative visit.

  • Tips for a successful visit.

  • PHA’s legislative priorities.

  • What to ask for during your visits with members of Congress.

Registration

Advocacy Day is included in your Symposium ticket, but you must register by Sept. 7. Advocacy Day registration closes on Sept. 7 to allow time for PHA to schedule meetings with each advocate’s congressional offices. Check the “Advocacy Day” box on the registration form to sign up.

If Your Plans

Change

Please tell us if your plans change. An accurate attendance count helps PHA maintain positive relationships with members of Congress. If you no longer plan to join us for Advocacy Day, please contact us as soon as possible.
