SPIRIT Conference Scholarship Application Program Guidelines

Process:

1) Only individuals with MPS or ML who reside in the United States and are members in good standing are eligible to receive a SPIRIT conference scholarship. “Good standing” means membership is updated for the current year.

2) Strictest confidentiality regarding application, names, and funding will be maintained by the Society.

3) The Society will issue a letter to the applicant indicating whether the application has been approved or denied and the amount of funding granted, if any.

4) Travel funding will be reimbursed directly to the applicant. Receipts must be provided for airfare, train travel, rental car, etc. If mileage reimbursement is requested, round trip mileage will be determined using Google Maps driving directions and reimbursement will be at the current IRS rate for medical travel. Upon written request up to 50% of allocated transportation funds can be advanced prior to the SPIRIT conference. The remaining 50% will be paid at the SPIRIT conference.

5) Applicant must submit registration forms prior to the final registration deadline or the scholarship will be forfeited.

6) We understand that illness or unforeseen events arise; however, we do ask that if you are awarded funding and are not able to attend the conference, that you please notify the National MPS Society as soon as possible. This will allow the opportunity to award the travel grant to another adult in need.

7) Applications must be submitted electronically at https://mps.onlineapplications.net/applications/. If you require assistance to complete the online application, please call the office at least a week prior to any posted deadlines to begin the process at 919-806-0101.

8) Applicants are responsible for booking their own travel and hotel accommodations.

Application Review:

1) Applications will be reviewed after the submission deadline. All of the required documentation is required in order for application to be eligible.

2) The Family Support Committee will review all eligible applications and will select the applications for funding.

3) The Family Support Committee’s interpretation of the regulations outlining the SPIRIT Conference Scholarship Program and any decisions made by the Committee are binding. Appeals can be made to the Board of Directors in writing within 30 days of denial. The appeal will be reviewed at the next Board meeting.
