Singapore, officially the Republic of Singapore, and often referred to as the Lion City, the Garden City, and the Red Dot, is a global city and sovereign state in Southeast Asia and the world's only island city-state.

Off the southern tip of Malaysia, Singapore is a global financial centre with a tropical climate and multicultural population. Its colonial core centres on the Padang, a cricket field since the 1830s and now flanked by grand buildings such as City Hall, with its 18 Corinthian columns. In Singapore's old Chinatown (c1820) stands the red-and-gold Buddha Tooth Relic Temple, said to house one of Buddha's teeth.
