Mr Sandeep Bahl

Air New Zealand
Sandeep joined Air New Zealand on 1 March 2012. He is responsible for all of Air New Zealand¹s Asia business providing leadership and support for the carriers Asia growth plans under Go Beyond Strategy and revenue generation from the region. Sandeep has over 25 years of aviation experience, much of which has been in the Asia Pacific region. He has held key leadership roles in sales and marketing, in-flight services and operations for a number of major global carriers and have lived in India, Australia, Japan, Hong Kong and China. 

Prior to joining Air New Zealand, Sandeep was Director ­ Hong Kong & China with Delta Airlines (previously Northwest) where he was instrumental in driving sustainable revenue growth, establishing strong industry and regulatory relationships, and ensuring a seamless merger of Delta and Northwest. Sandeep holds an MBA and post graduate degree from Oxford Brooks University in the U.K, as well as an undergraduate degree from the Institute of Hotel Management in New Delhi,India. He has also completed the China Managers Development Program from prestigious Cheung Kong Graduate School of Business in Beijing. Sandeep is Chairman of Board of Airlines Representative in China and vice chair of Aviation Committee for World Tourism Cities Federation (WTCF).
 
Mr Tony Fernandes

Tan Sri Dr. Tony Fernandes has a personal credo - "Believe the unbelievable. Dream the impossible. Never take no for an answer". He studied at Epsom College, UK, and the London School of Economics and qualified as an Associate Member of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants in 1991. He became a Fellow Member in 1996. He was admitted as a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW) in 2008."

Tony has been the Group CEO of AirAsia since December 2001. Prior to AirAsia, he was the Financial Controller of Virgin Communications London before joining Warner Music International London in 1989. He was promoted to Managing Director, Warner Music Malaysia in 1992 and to Regional Managing Director, Warner Music South East Asia in 1996. In 1999, he became the Vice President of Warner Music South East Asia.
Tony's many awards include: Honor of the Commander of the Order of the British Empire, conferred by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II in 2011 for services to promote commercial and educational links between the UK and Malaysia. In 2010, the French government conferred upon him the Officier of the Legion d'Honneur award and in 2013, the Commander of the Legion d’Honneur for outstanding contributions towards the economy of France through the aviation industry.

He was named as one of the world's 100 most creative people in business for 2011 by New York-based business magazine Fast Company, and awarded the Inaugural ‘Travel Business Leaders Award’ winner by CNBC. He was also honoured with the ‘Innovator of the Year’ award at the CNBC 12th Asia Business Leaders Awards.
He also won the ‘Airline Industry Leader of the Year’ award at the 4th annual Aviation 100 Awards in January 2014, for pushing the boundaries of the aviation industry. 
 
Ms Aireen Omar

AirAsia Berhad
Aireen Omar was appointed as AirAsia Berhad’s Chief Executive Officer on 1 July 2012. She is also an Executive Director for the company.
She hails from Petaling Jaya, and is an Economics graduate of the London School of Economics & Political Science (LSE) and also holds a Masters in Economics from New York University (NYU).
Aireen has been a member of the senior management team since 2006 and has been instrumental in shaping the development of AirAsia Berhad into one of the fastest growing and most highly-acclaimed airline globally.
She joined AirAsia as the Director of Corporate Finance and her portfolio expanded quickly to also include Treasury, Fuel Procurement and Investor Relations functions.

Today, she oversees close to 7,000 staff at AirAsia Berhad, across 16 hubs in Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, Philippines and India; serving over 62 destinations across the region with a fleet of 78 Airbus A320.
Reporting directly to the co-founders of AirAsia; Tan Sri Dr. Tony Fernandes and Datuk Kamarudin Meranun; Aireen plays an integral part in mapping out AirAsia’s growth plans and maintain its trajectory despite increased competition around the region.
She began her career at Deutsche Bank Securities Inc, in New York. Her last position being at the Equity Arbitrage Proprietary Trading Desk focusing on international equities, equity derivatives and equity-linked products. She returned to Malaysia in 2001, and served several major local financial institutions including the Maybank Group.

Aireen is a member of the Board of Directors of Malaysia Tourism Promotion Board (MTPB), popularly known as Tourism Malaysia.

Mr Philip Petit
Project Director

Philip Petit is Project Director at AviAlliance. He is responsible for M&A projects, mainly in the Asian region.
Philip began his career in 1999 with various positions at Siemens before joining German construction group HOCHTIEF as Treasurer in 2003 where he got involved in various infrastructure and M&A deals. In 2008, he joined AviAlliance (formerly HOCHTIEF AirPort), one of the world's leading private industrial airport investors and managers with shareholdings in the airports of Athens, Budapest, Düsseldorf, Hamburg and Tirana. Between 2010 and 2014 Philip served as diplomat at the Embassies of Tokyo and New Delhi as Industry Attaché. After this exchange program he returned to AviAlliance, since 2013 a participating interest of the Public Sector Pension Investment Board (PSP Investments) of Canada.
 
Mr Faisal Ariff

Faisal founded BorderPass to expedite ASEAN nationals through ASEAN airports. Prior to BorderPass he worked in the fund management industry in the UK, Singapore and Malaysia, along with two intergovernmental organisations in the US. He studied law at the University of Cambridge and Columbia University, the latter as a Fulbright Scholar. 
 
Mr Emmanuel Menanteau

Emmanuel MENANTEAU began his career in 1993 at French Multinational Company Sextant Avionique where he held a number of positions, first as Sales and Marketing Manager then as the Head of the company’s office in India.
In 2001, he joined France’s Thales, a world leading company for Defense, Transport and Aerospace systems as Vice-President, Sales and Marketing, based in Singapore (2004-2010) then in China (2010).
In July 2011, Emmanuel MENANTEAU was appointed Chief Executive Officer of Cambodia Airports, a subsidiary of VINCI Airports Group (France) holding the concession of the country’s network of international airports. He is also in charge of VINCI Airports development activities in South East Asia.
In 2012, Emmanuel was appointed ACI Asia Pacific Board member, then in 2014 he joined ACI Asia Pacific Ex-Com as Treasurer and ACI world board.
Emmanuel MENANTEAU is a graduate of the Paris based School of International Relations and Commerce. He is the Chairman of the European Chamber of Commerce of Cambodia and French Trade Advisor.
 
Brendan Sobie

Brendan Sobie is the chief analyst and chief representative Southeast Asia for CAPA -Centre for Aviation. He is part of CAPA’s team of senior analysts, who provide unmatched global coverage and commentary of airline industry developments and trends from bases in five cities.
Brendan specializes in analysis of emerging markets and has extensive experience covering Asia-Pacific and Latin America. He gives frequent presentations, particularly on the fast growing and highly dynamic Southeast Asian airline sector. He is also an instructor on short courses focusing on the Asian aviation market and is often quoted by the media in Asia and globally.
Brendan joined CAPA, previously known as the Centre for Asia Pacific Aviation, in April 2011. He is based at CAPA’s Southeast Asia office in Singapore.
Prior to joining CAPA, Brendan spent over 10 years at Flightglobal, the publisher of Flight International Magazine, Airline Business Magazine and website Flightglobal.com. During this span he was based in all three of Flightglobal’s offices – London, Singapore and Washington DC – and held various senior editorial positions.
Brendan has been covering the aviation industry for over 15 years. He’s also a private pilot, licensed in both Malaysia and the US. He has a degree in industrial and labor relations from Cornell University in New York.

Anup Mysoor is a Managing Director in Citi's Investment Banking division with responsibility for the Aviation, Power & Utilities sectors in Asia Pacific.

Anup has 25 years experience in banking and M&A. Prior to his current appointment in 2008, he was the Asia Head of the Industrials, Real Estate, Consumer and Healthcare group in Citi's corporate bank in Asia Pacific. Anup moved to Hong Kong in 2002 from London where he was responsible for aviation industry coverage for key clients based in Europe and the Middle East. Prior to joining aviation in 2000, he was co-head of the German team at Citi's Asset Finance Group in London. He started his career in 1990 as an M&A analyst.

Anup is an Associate of the CFA Society of the UK (ASIP), earned a BCom from the University of Mysore (India), an MSc in Investment Analysis from the University of Stirling (Scotland) and an MBA from Manchester Business School (England), where he also used to be a Visiting Fellow.

Since the Global Financial Crisis, Anup has been involved in over 95 strategic transactions with a total value in excess of USD 75 Bn.

Duties and Responsibilities:
As Chief Executive Officer of the Civil Aeronautics Board (CAB) runs and manages the day to day operation and overall affairs of the Board, consisting in the administration of laws, execution of policies and implementation of rules and regulations pertaining to the economic regulation of air carriers, as well as the promotion of the growth and development of the aviation industry.
Outline of important programs and activities undertaken/accomplished by the CAB during his tenure as Executive Director from 2006 to the present.

• ISO Certification obtained on August, 2007 on the Implementation of the CAB Quality Management System (ISO 9001:2000)

• On-going ISO program: Expansion of the scope of the ISO certification of core business processes to include the support services; Conversion of QMS from ISO 9001:2000 to ISO 9001:2008

• Computerization Program, including databasing, creation and launching of the CAB website (CAB.gov.ph) on December 18, 2009, and the installation of a Data Management System using the Alchemy Software

• In pursuance of current public policy towards the expansion of air linkages and the overall development of the air transportation industry through enhanced competition and investments and progressive liberalization of market access, the following programs/activities were undertaken:

1. The Air Negotiating Panel, of which the CAB Executive Director is the Vice Chairman and prime mover, conducted an unprecedented total of 42 air negotiations with 37 countries from 2007 to 2011, resulting in the dramatic expansion of air traffic rights to and from the Philippines and a significant increase in actual international passenger numbers, from about 10 million in 2006 to about 13 million in 2009.

2. Adoption of a Liberalized Charter Program for developmental routes that paved the way for the operation of a very significant volume of quasi-scheduled charter services (and eventually, regular services) to and from the Philippines by low cost carriers, among which are Tiger Airways, Air Asia Berhad and many other airlines.

3. Enhanced competition, investments and the overall growth in the aviation industry through a more streamlined and rational set of procedures on the processing of permits, as well as through the adoption of development-oriented policies and programs, including discount privileges on filing fees, liberal tariff regime, multiple designation of airlines on international routes, allocation of more and more traffic rights to local carriers and other growth stimulating measures. Domestic passenger traffic also registered robust growth from about 10 million in 2006 to about 15 million in 2009, recording one of the highest growth rates in the world.
 
Mr Ole Wieth Christensen

Ole joined Copenhagen Airport (CPH) in 2003 and has held different positions at the airport focusing on traffic development and airline customer relations. In 2009-2010 Ole and his team were driving the strategic development leading to construction of CPH’s LCC pier, enabling CPH to offer a dedicated LCC facility in addition to the airport’s high quality transfer airport product – and all under one roof.
Currently, Ole is responsible for:
  • Development and execution of CPH’s Aviation Business Strategy
  • Traffic revenue of DKK 2,250 million / USD 335 million (2014)
  • All airline customers and their development at CPH
  • Developing new routes to/from Scandinavia’s largest airport
  • Developing more frequencies on existing routes

  • Retention of existing routes, frequencies and airlines
  • Leading a team of 10 sales, marketing, business development, and route development specialists
Before joining the airport he worked in the medico industry and before that a couple of years in the Danish Armed Forces as Platoon Leader for an Engineer Platoon.
He holds an MBA in International Management and a M.Sc. in International Business supplemented with executive training at INSEAD and Harvard Business School.
When not involved in aviation business development at CPH, Ole enjoys living in Greater Copenhagen with his wife and three daughters. 
 
Mr Guy Stephenson

Guy was appointed in November 2010, joining us from National Express Ltd. Before this he spent five years as commercial director of Thomsonfly and worked in investment banking, advising government and public sector clients throughout Europe on airport and ATC privatisation and restructuring.
He has a BA (Hons) from the University of Durham, and an MBA with distinction from Imperial College London.
Guy is an accomplished violinist and lives with his family in Wimbledon.
 
Mr Andrew Cowen

HK Express
Andrew Cowen is Deputy Chief Executive Officer for HK Express, Hong Kong’s one-and-only low-fare airline. Andrew has 25 years’ experience in the aviation industry, including leadership roles at low-cost carriers (LCCs) in the UK, Middle East, Vietnam, the Philippines, and Japan. Prior to his appointment at HK Express in 2013, Andrew worked with VietjetAir guiding them through their early growth phase into profitability. The shareholders that founded Peach, based in Osaka, Japan used Andrew’s LCC expertise to ensure set-up in accordance with the LCC business model. Before working at Peach, Andrew developed an LCC transformation plan to convert Air Philippines into what is now PAL Express. From 2005 – 2008 he was CEO of Saudi Arabian LCC Sama Airlines, leading the start-up through initial concept development to funding, licence acquisition and launch. In 2009 Andrew acted as the CEO of Jazeera Airlines, based in Kuwait.

Andrew started his aviation career in 1989 in the finance department of British Airways. He eventually went on to manage the airline’s financial affairs for its American business unit, before taking on the role of Director of Finance and Strategy for BA’s LCC, Go. In this capacity he played a key role in the MBO of Go from British Airways and the subsequent trade sale to EasyJet Plc. As Deputy CEO of HK Express, Andrew is shaping the future direction of the airline, leading the team through the transformation from full service carrier to an LCC, and rapid growth phase. With a targeted fleet number of 30 by end of 2018, Andrew is applying his skills and experience gained at 7 LCCs across the world to guide HKExpress’ development into a leading Asian LCC. Fluent in English, Andrew graduated from City University, London in 1989 and qualified as a Chartered Management Accountant in 1992.
 
Mr Barathan Pasupathi

Barathan Pasupathi (Bara), CEO Jetstar Asia and Valuair is also a Director on the Board of Jetstar Asia, Valuair and Newstar. Bara has more than 20 years’ experience in senior roles across the aviation and energy sectors and was a founding executive of Jetstar Asia, serving as its Chief Financial Officer from 2004 to 2007. His key achievements at Jetstar include helping to establish the airline in 2004, seeing through its merger with Valuair, fleet procurement and fuel hedging. Jetstar Asia has since become the largest and most profitable low fares airline in Singapore. 

Having held several leadership positions in Singapore, Europe and the Middle East, Bara has extensive exposure in oil market risk management, aircraft finance and leasing, and supply chain management. Bara expanded his aviation and finance experience as Chief Financial Officer for Middle East-based Jazeera Airways, during which the airline was successfully listed on the Kuwati Stock Exchange. He also played a key role in the establishment of Sahaab Aircraft leasing in Kuwait. 

Prior to being appointed CEO of Jetstar Asia, Bara was the Managing Director of Mabanaft Singapore Pte Ltd, a leading independent German oil trading group based in Singapore. Bara is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and holds a Bachelor of Commerce as well as a Masters in Business Administration. In 2013, Bara was recognised as Distinguished Alumni of Murdoch University WA.

Gary Gibb is the President - Asia Pacific of L&B, based in Melbourne and is a qualified Civil Engineer with almost 30 years experience in the aviation industry. With a career dedicated to airports, Mr. Gibb has led successful projects in South East Asia, China, India, Australia, New Zealand, Europe and the Middle East. With a strong focus on building relationships and trust with his clients in the Asia-Pacific, Mr. Gibb has played a prominent role in forging a significant reputation for L&B in the region. Under his leadership, L&B has won commendation in both 2011 and 2012 in the Governor of Victoria Export awards.
 
Dr Alan Khee-Jin Tan
Professor of Aviation Law
National University of Singapore (NUS)
Dr Alan Tan is Professor of Aviation Law at the National University of Singapore (NUS) Law School. Born in Penang, Malaysia and educated at the NUS and Yale Law Schools, Alan teaches aviation law, shipping law and environmental law. He has been a Justices’ Law Clerk in the Supreme Court of Singapore and heads the Air Law & Policy programme at the NUS Centre for International Law. He is an instructor at the Singapore Aviation Academy (SAA) and course trainer for the IATA Training and Development Institute. In 2009, Alan was appointed a Hauser Global Visiting Professor at the New York University (NYU) School of Law, where he taught a course on Global Aviation Law and Policy. He has also been a frequent speaker at the annual IATA Legal Symposium. Alan’s research interests lie in the liberalization of the aviation industry in Asia. He has been a consultant to the Asia-Pacific Economic Co-operation (APEC) forum and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) on aviation liberalization in Asia. He has been a consultant with CAPA Consulting on a landmark study for the ASEAN Secretariat on the prospects for a single aviation market in Southeast Asia (“Developing ASEAN’s Single Aviation Market and Regional Air Services Agreements with Dialogue Partners”). He has also served as consultant to the ASEAN Air Carriers Association on the interpretation of fifth and seventh freedom rights in the ASEAN multilateral agreements for air transport liberalization. On the governmental side, Alan has worked with and presented at the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore, the UAE General Civil Aviation Authority (on the Damascus Agreement) and the Indonesian Directorate-General for Civil Aviation (on “open skies” in Indonesia). He has also spoken at various industry seminars, including for IATA and Embraer. Alan has published extensively on aviation issues in leading journals such as the Annals of Air and Space Law (Canada), the Journal of Air Law & Commerce (U.S.A.), the Journal of Air Transport Management (Netherlands) and Air & Space Law (Netherlands). In 2006, his article “Liberalizing Aviation in the Asia-Pacific Region: The Impact of the E.U. Horizontal Mandate” was published in the Air and Space Law journal and won the Diederiks-Verschoor Prize for Best Publication in Air and Space Law, awarded by Kluwer Law International. Alan has also authored opinion pieces on Asian aviation in industry publications such as CAPA’s Airline Leader, Airline Business and in broadsheets such as the Straits Times. He is currently working on antitrust issues relating to airline alliances and joint ventures in Asia, particularly in Singapore and China.

Andreas is a Partner with Strategy&, based in Sydney and leads Strategy&'s aviation practice in Australia while retaining a strong global focus.
He has supported aviation clients in Australia, South East Asia, China, US, Middle East and Europe and specialises in Corporate Strategy, Customer Experience, Business / Operating Model, M&A and Cost Reduction, as well as organisational change and cultural evolution. He has nearly 20 years of experience in the aviation and tourism industry. As part of these projects he worked for large international network carriers, regional carriers, aviation groups intending to start a Low Cost Carrier, international hub airports, as well as tourism destinations and transport authorities.
He started his career at Thomas Cook, where he helped develop the first revenue management system for a tour operator, leveraging the know how of Thomas Cook's parent company Lufthansa and translating those methods for the tourism sector. He also worked in network, pricing, product management and capacity control. After his MBA at INSEAD (2007) in Singapore and France Andreas joined Booz & Company, which has now become Strategy&, part of the PwC network.
He enjoys spending his free time with his wife and three kids, exploring the beaches around Sydney, the Australian outback or any fascinating places further afield, while still keeping an eye on the latest football results of his favourite club Bayern Muenchen.
 
Mr Ilya Gutlin

Ilya Gutlin was appointed President, Asia Pacific, in March 2012. Prior to this Ilya had been Vice President, Airport Solution Line SITA for over two years where he was the architect behind SITA’s ‘Intelligent Airport’ vision. SITA's growing portfolio of airport solutions is used by airports and airlines at more than 400 locations worldwide and covers the entire airport ecosystem. Ilya joined SITA in 1998 as a financial controller and from 2003 to 2009 successfully led the regional sales team in East and Central Europe. Born in St Petersburg, Russia, he graduated with distinction with a Bachelor of Commerce degree from McGill University in Montreal. Ilya is fluent in Russian and English and speaks French. He is based in Singapore.
 
Mr Tassapon Bijleveld

Tassapon Bijleveld joined Thai AirAsia as Chief Executive Officer in 2003, since day one of the company’s establishment. He is entrusted with the responsibility of overseeing all aspects of the airline’s operations as well as boosting growth in Thailand. Currently, the airline has over 3,500 employees, and 44 brand new Airbus A320-200 planes. Today, Thai AirAsia flies to 53 international and domestic routes and has carried over 66 million passengers.

Prior to joining Thai AirAsia, Tassapon was Managing Director of Warner Music (Thailand) Co. Ltd. for 5 years. Within 3 years, Tassapon turned the company around and placed Warner Music (Thailand) at the top, compared to other international music companies.
It was also at Warner Music where he met Tony Fernandes, the founder of AirAsia and currently the Group CEO. Tassapon took a leap of faith and decided to try his luck in the low-cost airline industry, which was still a new and revolutionary concept at the time. His willingness to learn a new industry from scratch, and his can-do attitude has led Thai AirAsia to become the largest low-cost carrier in Thailand.

Tassapon began his career at Warner-Lambert Thailand Ltd, in the confectionery division where he started as Assistant Product Manager and grew to Senior Product Manager with several posts in Asia. Prior to joining Thai AirAsia, Tassapon had acquired over 12 years of experience in the consumer product industry, working in various countries in South East Asia for two Fortune 500 companies - Adams (Thailand) Co. Ltd and Monsanto (Thailand) Co.Ltd . He spent five years with Monsanto as a pioneer, setting up the division from scratch before eventually building it into a multi- million dollar business in just a few years.

Tassapon is well-known for his leadership and team-building ability. His business philosophy emphasizes the successful synergy between all departments within the company. Thai AirAsia’s success is a result of a passionate, motivated team with strong rapport and a can-do spirit. Tassapon holds a Master’s Degree in Marketing, and currently he is a part–time lecturer in several leading universities in Thailand.

Prior to current position, was Head of Operations at Jetstar Asia and Viva Macau. Was COO of Jetstar Pacific in Vietnam.
Led the team at Tigerair Taiwan to achieve its AOC in September 2014, making it the first LCC in Taiwan. Tigerair Taiwan is a Joint Venture between China Airlines and Tiger Airways Holdings. Tigerair Taiwan inaugural flight was on 26 September 2014, targeting to grow to 12 aircraft within 3 years.
Since its inaugural flight, the airline has added an aircraft every 2 months. To date, Tigerair Taiwan operates out of Taipei and Kaohsiung airports in Taiwan to Singapore, Bangkok, Tokyo, Osaka, Okinawa and Macau.

Warren is an Adjunct Professor in the School of Aviation at the University of New South Wales. He is a Commissioner at the Australian Productivity Commission and the Australian Competitive Neutrality Commissioner. In 2014, he was appointed a member of the board of the Sydney Desalination Plant Pty Ltd.

He is the Managing Director of Bluestone Consulting that has provided advice to investors, providers, regulators and users of a wide range of infrastructure services since 2003. Past and present clients include airports in Melbourne, Perth, Wellington, Auckland, Cairns, Mackay and Darwin, the Board of Airline Representatives of Australia, the ports of Cairns, Port Kembla and Melbourne and the Essential Services Commission of Victoria. He was the principal regulatory and economic advisor to the Australian Council for Infrastructure Development. He is currently advising the Australian Government on the development of a second major airport for Sydney.

During 2007 Warren was based in Glasgow and was Group General Manager Corporate Strategy for Infratil Airports that controlled Wellington, Glasgow Prestwick, Kent International and Lubeck Airports. In this role he has direct accountability to the CEO across the group for airport planning, strategic stakeholder management, public and regulatory policy issue, legal affairs, and the identification, examination and negotiation of acquisition opportunities, as well as resolution of major strategic issues that arise within individual airport businesses.
Between July 1993 and March 2003 Warren was head of corporate strategy at Melbourne Airport. He had direct responsibility for regulatory management, aeronautical pricing, forecasting and statistical analysis in addition to a general brief relating to overall strategic corporate direction and public policy. He was also responsible for airport planning and the aviation capital program and from time to time acted as CEO.

He served on the board of Airservices Australia for over five years, over four of which he was the Deputy Chair. He was a member of the Steering Committee for the joint NSW-Commonwealth Governments’ Sydney Aviation Strategy, was a founding director of Vicforests (the Victorian Government’s native timber sales entity) and has served on the boards of James Watt College for Higher and Further Education (in Scotland) and the United Kingdom Airports Operators Association.

Warren holds a first class honours degree in statistics and has masters and doctoral degrees in economics from the University of Cambridge where he attended Kings College as a Commonwealth Scholar. His doctoral thesis was on the role of Australian State Governments in economic development. He also has post-graduate qualifications in corporate finance and another in corporate governance and is a Master of Environmental Law from the Australian National University.
