Education Programs
The 2015 International Code Council Annual Conference offers a comprehensive Education Program to develop your code knowledge, provide you with valuable solutions to your most critical challenges in the code profession, and allow you to earn CEUs and LUs*. In addition to traditional format classes, there are a number of Special Topic, Local Interest and Building Tours available that provide a variety of learning experiences.
Education sessions take place Tuesday, September 29. Please refer to the chart below for session times. Education sessions will be on a first-come first-serve basis, be sure to arrive early to ensure a seat. Building Tours are available on Sunday, September 27 and Tuesday, September 29 (sign up for these tours during the registration process). More information about these three options is below. This year all session handouts will be available by downloadable format only. Hard copies of the session handouts will not be available. Participants can either download the handouts to their electronic devices or print the handouts and bring them to their scheduled sessions. The morning tour will be an exciting and informative tour of Queen Mary. Queen Mary is a retired ocean liner that sailed primarily on the North Atlantic Ocean from 1936 to 1967 for the Cunard Line. We will be discussing various projects toward restoration, rehabilitation, ADA related compliance measures and the application of historic preservation standards. From the ship's groundbreaking construction and royal launch as the most luxurious and technologically advanced ocean liner at the time, to her duty as a troopship during WWII, to her golden days of the 1950s, to her earning the nickname, the "haunted ship," the Queen Mary's history is full of action, adventure, romance and paranormal activity. Explore the ship from bow to stern, inside and out, and hear unique stories, facts and insights about the Queen Mary from our expert guides. After a delightful lunch (included) aboard Queen Mary, participants will be able to tour the special exhibit (included): DIANA: Legacy of a Princess & gift shops.
After Queen Mary, we will be heading off to California State University. This will be an exciting and informative tour of California State University in Long Beach. California State University, Long Beach, known nationally as "The Beach," is a hub of diversity, both culturally and intellectually. The 322-acre campus is designed to encourage student involvement and success. Eighty buildings house 63 academic programs and harmonize with master planned architecture, landscape and environmental sculpture for unparalleled access to success. Participants must register for the full day and will receive 0.6 ICC CEUs. Additional Fee of $125 applies. This tour is limited to 47 people and will be listed as an option when you register. Tuesday, September 29 | 6 am – 4 pm Disneyland / ARTIC Building Tour
This will be an exciting and informative tour of select locations at Disneyland Park in Anaheim. Disneyland is Walt Disney's original theme park built in Anaheim, California and opened on July 17, 1955. Today Disneyland is one of two theme parks located at the Disneyland Resort. Disneyland has made a number of green changes that has saved the park $60 million over the past 10 years. Participants will be able to tour several buildings on-stage and backstage with architects and engineers that design and maintain the facilities at the Disneyland Resort.
In the afternoon we will be touring the Anaheim Regional Transportation Intermodal Center (ARTIC) in Anaheim. The tour will be conducted by individuals with building knowledge of the ARTIC building, history & growth. The ARTIC project is an important element in the revitalization of Anaheim. The iconic ARTIC intermodal facility represents the Orange County transportation gateway to the future. The City of Anaheim’s vision sets the bar high for ARTIC, with the achievement of the sustainable goal of the U. S. Green Building Council (USGBC) LEED Platinum certification. Platinum is the highest LEED certification under LEED for New Construction & Major Renovations (V2009). LEED is a measurement system based on environmental & energy principles designed for rating the sustainability of buildings, homes, & neighborhoods. Building to LEED standards over time saves energy, water, & provides a healthy environment for occupants. Participants are asked to wear comfortable flat shoes and no shorts are allowed. Also no children are allowed and participants must register for the full day and will receive .6 ICC CEUs. Lunch is included. Additional Fee of $75 applies. This tour is limited to 40 people and will be listed as an option when you register. Please note that this tour runs concurrently with the educational programs & awards luncheon. Simpson Strong-Tie Building Tour

For more than 50 years, Simpson Strong-Tie has focused on creating structural products that help people build safer and stronger homes and buildings. This will be an exciting and informative tour of a Simpson Strong-Tie training facility. Participants will have the opportunity to hear an informative presentation, take a guided plant tour, and watch a test of a shear wall. This is a 6 hour tour including transportation. Lunch is included.
