Experience Ghana, Togo & Benin Tour (14 days)

August 26 - September 9, 2020

Day 1: We will pick you up in an air-conditioned vehicle at the airport and take you to your hotel, where you can rest from the flight. Get prepared for a fascinating tour filled with highlights of Ghana, Togo and Benin.

Day 2: Your first stop in Accra takes you to Jamestown where Accra originated. Start your day with a guided walking tour through Jamestown and watch the busy and colourful fishing harbour. Wander through the Kwame Nkrumah Mausoleum, Independence Square and W.E.B. DuBois Centre to learn about the Pan African culture, the history of Gold Coast and the Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade. Optional activities for the evening include visiting a rooftop bar or a typical live music spot in Accra!

Day 3: In the morning we will fly to Tamale, from where we continue our journey to Mole National Park. After arriving at the luxury lodge, you can choose between a walking and driving safari. Relax at the pool side and enjoy the amazing view over the waterhole.

Day 4: Start your day early with a morning driving safari in Mole National Park. The park is home to elephants, antelopes, hartebeests, waterbucks, buffaloes, water hogs, lions, leopards, hyenas and many others. Visit the Larabanga Mystery Stone and the mosque, which is believed to be the oldest Islamic building in Ghana. Get an introduction to the sheabutter process and learn about the traditional technique. In the afternoon we do a guided tour through the Mognori village inside the park. After learning about the typical village life in the area you will enjoy a typical cultural performance by the community!

Day 5: After taking your breakfast we start our journey towards Kumasi. Stop at the beautiful Kintampo waterfalls, located in the woods. Take a short hike to the falls and take a break to enjoy the amazing nature. Continue to Kumasi and visit the Ashanti King´s Palace, which was used by the Ashanti kings until 1974. Take a walk around the historic site and visit the museum.

Day 6: After taking your breakfast, we continue to the Kente clothing weaving village, Adanwomase in Ashanti region, which carries on the centuries-old Kente-weaving tradition. After learning about the creation and tradition of Kente clothes you will be guided through the village. Visit the chief´s palace, the forest shrine and wander through the cocoa farm. Later we will continue to Adinkra village where you will be introduced to the traditional meaning of the Adinkra symbols. Take part in a workshop to design your own print clothes. Later we will meet the Queen Mother of the village during an official greeting ceremony and learn about the history of the community.

Day 7: After starting our journey to Cape Coast, you will visit the Assin Manso Slave River. This river is where captured slaves from the Northern part of Ghana had their last bath before being transported to the Americas. After learning about this historic site you will visit one of the highlights of our tours, the home village of our founder Enock, a typical Ghanaian village close to Cape Coast. Be welcomed by the chief of the village during an official greeting ceremony and watch a typical cultural performance by the women and children of the village. Get an introduction to local cuisine by the family and enjoy a typical Ghanaian lunch together. You will be guided to the cocoa plantation, which is the main source of income for the village population. Visit the school project and say good bye to your new family before we continue our way to Cape Coast.

Day 8: Visit Elmina in the morning and watch the busy and colourful fishing harbour. Continue to Cape Coast Castle, which was used to hold slaves before they were loaded onto ships and sold in the Americas, especially the Caribbean. Start an emotional journey during which you will visit the dungeons and the door of no return. Receive a unique naming ceremony and get your own Ghanaian name. Later we continue to Kakum National Park to enjoy the view from the Canopy Walkway over 7 bridges & tree tops at 40m height, before returning to Accra. Enjoy your dinner with a typical cultural performance in the evening time!

Day 9: Today we continue onto a scenic drive towards Volta River. Tour the Akosombo dam, holding Volta Lake, the world's 2nd largest man-made lake. Later we continue to do a relaxing boat ride on the Volta River. Relax at your resort situated directly at the banks of Volta River.

Day 10: Today we cross the border to Togo. Enjoy the francophone atmosphere of Lomé with its numerous motorbikes and colonial buildings. Visit the Fetish Market and learn about the traditional Voodoo ceremonies. Continue to the flamboyant market 'Nana Benz' in Lomé and view the colourful printed fabrics.

Day 11: After our breakfast we continue to Benin. Continue to Quidah which is also known as the 'Vodoo Capital of Benin' and see the 'Route des Enclaves', which was the final road which slaves had to walk before being shipped to the Americas. Later we visit the Python temple in Quidah. Take a picture with the harmless pythons and learn about their use for voodoo ceremonies, before continuing to Cotonou where we spend the night.

Day 12:  Start your day early with a morning driving safari in Mole National Park. Day 13: In the morning we return to Accra. Visit the Makola Market and the Arts Centre, where you can watch the production of weaving baskets and other handcrafts. Later you have time to relax at your hotel or explore the nightlife of Accra!
