TRAVEL TO & FROM GALWAY

AIRPORTS

3 Main regional Airports are:
Dublin Airport c. 2 hours 20 mins by car
Shannon Airport c. 1 hour 5 mins by car
Knock Airport (Ireland West) c. 1 hour 10 mins by car


BUSES to Galway


From Dublin Airport, regular bus services operated by
with fully air-conditioned coaches, equipped with free Wi-Fi depart from Dublin Airport. Transfer times can be approx 2hr 50 minutes. You are urged to book online in advance, where possible. 
From Shannon Airport, a bus service is operated by Bus Éireann  (average from €10 one way) . The Bus service no. 51 Cork - Limerick - Shannon Airport - Galway OR Bus service no. X51 Limerck - Galway Express.
From Knock Airport, a bus service is operated by Bus Éireann (average from €13 one way).  With Limited services  on Sundays, Bus service no. 61 Galway- Knock -Sligo-Derry
Note that if staying on campus, on arrival to your bus depot in Galway, you can take the Campus Living shuttle if available  (operates during daytime hours and limited Mon to Fri- details will follow closer to the event) or simply grab a taxi to Corrib Village. 

TAXIS

Throughout Galway and Ireland there are many public taxi ranks available.  You are always advised to use an official taxi, this will be noted by the displayed sign and license which should be displayed on the cars dashboard.

RAIL TRAVEL
Irish Rail operates 9 daily commutes to Galway City Centre from Dublin.
Click here for further information.  Trains depart from Heuston Station Dublin, to Galway City Centre.
Average travel time is 2 hrs 10 minutes

If you are arriving to Dublin Airport and then wish to take the train, please note that you have to take a connecting service from Dublin Airport to Heuston Station. This can be by bus- Click here for more information (As this service stops at different points it can take up to 50 mins by bus) or a taxi from Dublin Airport to Heuston Station

TRAVELING AROUND GALWAY

Galway City is compact enough to tour on foot, and many visitors hire bicycles to assist in getting around.

Public buses from Eyre Square circumvent the city and make trips to nearby communities, while taxis hired from Bridge Street or the bus and train stations will take passengers to any area destination.
  • City Direct Bus Company and the route 412 services from Eyre Square to NUIG
  • City Bus Lines 402. 404 and 405 which operate convenient services between Eyre Sq. and NUIG. They stop in fron of the University on University Road, 5 minute's walk to the Bailey Allen Hall. You can take a return bus and board on the north side of Eyre Square back to campus.
