PROPOSALS FOR CONFERENCE SYMPOSIA

INVITATION TO SUBMIT A PROPOSAL FOR A CONFERENCE SYMPOSIUM
Consortium of Universities for Global Health (CUGH) invites all CUGH Members wishing to organize/develop a 3 to 4 speaker/presenter Symposium related to global health to submit a proposal for consideration.

Symposia panels comprise of (usually up to) 3 or 4 topic experts and a moderator. The speakers should provide knowledge about different views or aspects of the panel theme. These sessions can take on a number of formats including, but not limited to: 1) powerpoint presentations plus Audience Q&A; 2) experts' discussion plus Audience Q&A; 3) experts' debate plus Audience Q&A.

STATUS ANNOUNCEMENTS
Status announcements will be emailed to the proposal author between November 15, 2015 and November 30, 2015.
Proposal authors who receive an invitation to develop the proposed symposium must respond within seven (7) days. Unanswered invitations will be interpreted as the proposing party's withdrawal of the proposal. If you think you may be out of email range between November 15 and December 7, 2015, please designate a colleague to receive the status email and provide that person's email address on the proposal form accordingly.


PROPOSALS MUST FIT WITHIN 1 OF THE FOLLOWING 7 TRACKS
Please be prepared to provide a primary and secondary track.

  • Governance: Autocracy, Democracy and Health; Improving Health in Failed States; Health Security and Governance
  • MDGs and SDGs: SDGs - Implications for academic global health; Learning from the successes and failures of the MDGs
  • Human Resources and the Workforce: Advancing global health education; Key skills gaps in the global health workforce; Training and Capacity Building
  • Planetary Health / Global Environmental Health / One Health: Water, Air and Health; Animal Health and Human Health; Food and Nutrition; Environmental Sustainability; Oceans and Coastal Health
  • Technology and Innovation: Lessons from successful (and failed) technology development in global health; Innovating for low resource settings
  • New and Emerging Priorities for Global Health: Emerging Non-communicable Diseases Issues; Emerging Maternal Child Health Issues; Emerging Injury and Violence Issues
  • Financial and Operational Sustainability: Improving relationships between funders and academic health; Enabling Systems and Administrative Support


PROPOSAL GUIDELINES 

  • One (1) proposal per person.
    All proposals are reviewed, and selections made, by the Scientific Planning Committee.
  • While proposal authors/submittants must be CUGH members, membership is not required of the proposed speakers, moderators, facilitators.
  • All symposia accepted for inclusion in the agenda will be assigned time slots that range from 1 hour to 1.5 hour (includes time for Q&A).
  • Winning panel developers are responsible for ensuring that panel speakers and moderators are able to fund their registration, travel and accommodation costs.
  • The primary/submitting author will receive an email message confirming the receipt of the proposal
  • All speakers and moderators must be registered to attend the conference.

  • The maximum word count for the combination of panel/workshop Objective and Description is 350 words.
  • Proposed titles can not exceed 250 characters (including spaces) and should NOT be all caps (CORRECT: e.g. Ethical dilemmas in global health research: a roundtable discussion)
  • All proposals must be submitted in English.

  • All proposals require the following information:
    - Proposing Party's Contact Information
    - Proposed Title
    - Proposed Moderator/Facilitator(s)
    - Proposed Speakers
    - Symposium Objective
    - Symposium Description
    - Short statement about the invited persons' presumed abilities to fund their travel, lodging and registration costs.
    - Indication of the proposing party's desire to develop the symposium if it is selected


PANEL REVIEW

  • Session slots are limited. Proposals are reviewed by the Scientific Planning Committee.
  • All proposals for speaker panels must be received by CUGH by September 30, 2015.
  • In the event that session slots are full in advance of September 30, 2015, the Scientific Planning Committee reserves the right to close the submission process early.
  • Proposals' status will be announced between November 15, 2015 and November 30, 2015.
