How will each of us be changed by a world without printed books? That is the question posed by director Vivienne Roumani in Out of Print, a film that examines the effect of new technology on the publishing industry. Narrated by Meryl Streep, Out of Print, draws viewers into the world of words, illuminating the turbulent and exciting journey from print through the digital revolution.

Interviews with a cast of publishing experts, including Jeff Bezos Founder and CEO of Amazon.com; Ray Bradbury, Author of Fahrenheit 451; Scott Turow, Author, Lawyer and President of the Authors Guild; Jane Friedman, CEO of Open Road Integrated Media; and Jeffrey Toobin, Journalist at The New Yorker and CNN. Contributions from parents, students, educators, scientists all highlight how this revolution is changing everything about the printed word and changing us.

Vivienne Roumani brings a unique perspective gained as a director at the Library of Congress and the UC Berkeley Library, where she led digitization projects. The film has been screened at numerous film festivals and venues around the world, including a premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival, and it has received a number of “Best Documentary” awards. It is now being scheduled for broadcast in numerous locations worldwide.

The reception and screening , followed by the panel discussion, will begin at 5:30 p.m. on Monday, January 13, at the Sheraton Hotel and Towers in New York City. Individual tickets may be purchased for $75 each.
