2022 YF&R Leadership Conference Tours

 

Tour #1 - Louisville Slugger

Home of the Louisville Sluggers. The first stop will be the Louisville Slugger Ballpark where visitors will experience a personal walk through the ballpark followed by the Louisville Slugger Museum & Factory for a glimpse of the bat-making process and exhibits. Visitors will leave with a free souvenir mini bat.

Tour #2 - Goats and Dairy

Start off at the Sunny Acres Farm, a Farm Bureau family-run farm with plenty of activities for visitors. Members will watch goat races and learn how they host and operate goat yoga. The next stop is Harvest Home Dairy where visitors will learn how dairy farmers handle farm life in Kentucky.

Tour #3 - Feed Mill & Racetrack

First stop is Hallway Feeds, a feed mill that feeds Triple Crown and Kentucky Derby winners. The tour takes visitors on a behind the scenes walk through of the plant and offers a chance for guests to get their hands into freshly made feeds. Last stop is Keeneland Racetrack, a national historic landmark. This tour takes visitors through the Keeneland Paddock, Grandstand and grounds. The tour finishes with an invitation to visit the Keeneland Library.

Tour #4 - Distillery - Distilleries & Farming

This tour will start at Barton 1792 Distillery which sits on 196 acres of historical land and includes a walkthrough of one of the warehouses that was built in the 1930’s and finishes with a tasting. Then we head to the Preservation Distillery, home of slow bourbon distilling. You will tour the farmhouse distillery and historic barns and conclude with a tasting.

Tour #5 - Kentucky Horse Farms

The first stop will be Millridge Farms where first class thoroughbreds are raised and sold. Visitors will have the chance to meet the horses and feed them carrots. Next, is Godolphin Stud Farms home to the Darley thoroughbred stallions in the United States. The tour will begin with a teaching of the scope of Godolphin, the international thoroughbred breeding and racing operation founded by Sheikh Mohammed, ruler of Dubai.

Tour #6 - Distillery - Distilleries & Technology

Kentucky Peerless Distilling Co. will take you behind the scenes and show how they craft products from grain into bottles under one roof. This state-of-the-art facility is one of the most automated distilleries with cutting-edge technology. Stitzel-Weller Distiller will be the final stop gaining a unique perspective on the dichotomy of the historic contrasted with the innovations of tomorrow that include Blade and Bow Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey, I.W. Harper and Orphan Barrel.

Tour #7 - All Things Science

A perfect tour for families with children. This education tour will take guests through Payton Glass Activity Center to  see demonstrations on how glass is made by a torch, kiln or furnace. Next stop will be the Kentucky Science Center where visitors can experience six interactive exhibits.

Tour #8 - Horse Rehabilitation (Previously Horse Hospital)

This tour is to Spy Coast Farm where they specialize in the breeding and training of top-quality performance horses, specifically Grand Prix show jumpers. Guests will tour their state-of-the-art Rehabilitation and Fitness Center, Stallion Barn, CEM Quarantine, Young Horse Development Center, Equine Education Center, and Reproduction Center where our mares and foals reside.

Cost: $22

Tour #9 - University of Kentucky

Take a step into the life of a UK Wildcat. This tour includes the University of Kentucky sheep and beef units as well as a special tour through the equine facility. After spending time in the sheep and beef units, visitors will be transitioned to the sheep unit then the equine facility.

Tour #10 - Distillery - Bourbon Only Distilleries

Are you interested in a bourbon-only tour? This tour starts at Heaven Hill Distillery where visitors will walk around the distillery and finish at the distillery bar with a bourbon tasting. The next stop is Buffalo Trace where visitors will experience an intimate tour of the crafting behind their fine bourbon whiskey.

Tour #11 – Fruit and Organic Kentucky Farms

The Horton Fruit Company is a homegrown company and this tour of their entire warehouse showcases their multifaceted functions of growing, ripening, repacking, food safety care and distribution process. Next travel to Rootbound Farm, a certified organic vegetable farm. This family-run farm grows over 50 varieties of vegetable, fruits and herbs. Learn how the diversity of their Kentucky land helps their farming operations.

Tour #12 - Stockyards and Orchards

Visit Bluegrass Stockyards and learn their mission of how they provide opportunities for their costumers to be profitable in the livestock production industry. Visitors will get a glimpse of their programs and services. Finally, tour Mulberry Orchard where they farm corn, soybeans, burley tobacco, hay, cattle, apple trees, peach trees and pumpkins. This tour will include a hayride through the orchard.

Tour #13 - Distillery - Kentucky’s First Commercial Distillery

The Evan Williams Bourbon Experience, is Kentucky’s first commercial distiller. The tour takes a visitor through the past and present of the Evan’s era. The next tour stop is Copper & Kings American Brandy Distillery where visitors will find a modern eco-friendly facility. Both tours include tastings.

Tour #14 -Koetter Woodworking and Mega Cavern

Koetter Woodworking is a state-of-the-art millwork manufacturing facility that produces products primarily for the kitchen cabinet industry along with the mid- to high-end residential and commercial markets. Visitors will learn about the importance of sustainable forestry and the entire process of taking green lumber and turning into a finished product. Next is an underground visit to the Louisville Mega Cavern. The mega tram will take visitors through the man-made cavern that is part of 17 miles of corridors located beneath the city of Louisville, Kentucky.

Tour #15 - Farms and Greenhouses

Take a tour of a production agriculture including corn, soybeans and wheat on the Fred L. Sipes Farm with owners and operators Fred and Stacy Snipes. Fred is the country Farm Bureau president and Stacy is an Area Program Director for Kentucky Farm Bureau. Then  tour Hardesty Farm and Greenhouse where visitors will walk the path of their tobacco greenhouse supply business.

Tour #16 - Community Service: Food Literacy Project

This is your chance to help the community with a Food Literacy Project, as you help youth transform their communities through food, farming and the land. Spend a few hours giving back. Activities will include prepping the new farm location in downtown Louisville for the youth group by spreading wood chips along a path, seeding flats, picking up trash, and weeding in and around the greenhouses. Dress for the weather and prepare for cool temperatures and possible mud.
