At this year’s Law and Literature CLE Event, we will reflect upon the ethical behavior of lawyers through the lens of crime fiction. Within this genre, those who represent the law—including lawyers, judges and the police—are often depicted as impediments to justice, while private detectives, though operating above the law, demonstrate higher ideals and ethics. We will focus on the novel Killing Orders by Sara Paretsky, in which a lawyer seeks to effect changes for the greater good by pursuing a new career path as a private eye.
