Awards Brunch

This year, the Awards Brunch will take place on Monday.  All conference attendees are welcome to attend as a part of their general registration.  Come join as we celebrate some of our society's most notable as we hand out awards such as the Hall of Fame, Distinguished Service Award, the Dr. Timothy Hosea Award, Phillip Hossler Loyalty & Commitment Award, as well as introducing all the scholarship winners!

The cost for this event is free with your registration.  However, if additional tickets are needed, please add the number at the end of your registration form.  If you wish to purchase additional Awards Brunch tickets after you completed your registration, please fill out the registration form again, selecting "Awards Brunch Attendee Only" on the first page. 

The cost for additional tickets is $64/Person.

President's Award

The President's Award is given to a person or group that has made a significant impact on the Society.  The President's Award recipient consistently demonstrates dedication to the ATSNJ through collaboration, representation, and integration to assist with the advancement of our profession and society.

Hall of Fame

The ATSNJ Hall of Fame exists to recognize the very best of our profession in the state of New Jersey.  Induction into the Hall of Fame honors athletic trainers who exemplify the mission of the ATSNJ through significant lasting contributions that enhance the quality of health care provided by athletic trainers and advance the profession. They have helped shape the profession in New Jersey through their noteworthy accomplishments and dedication to service, leadership and professionalism.

Distinguished Service

The ATSNJ Distinguished Service Award (DSA) recognizes ATSNJ members who have demonstrated exceptional commitment to leadership, volunteer service, advocacy and distinguished professional activities as an athletic trainer. The DSA exclusively recognizes ATSNJ members who have been involved in service and leadership activities at the state and district level. 

Dr. Timothy Hosea Team Physician Award

The Dr. Timothy Hosea Award is given to a deserving team physician who has worked to support and further the profession of Athletic Training. This recipient will have emulated the characteristics of Dr. Hosea and his commitment to our profession.

Phillip Hossler Loyalty and Commitment Award

Phillip Hossler Loyalty and Commitment Award-Phil Hossler served the ATSNJ over a span of three decades.  He was the first ATSNJ Secretary/Treasurer (1977-1980) and was the only two-time ATSNJ President (1983-1984, 1997-1998).  Phil’s inventive mind not only improved his own work environment but enhanced secondary school athletic training across the state.  He was also the driving force behind the Department of Education certificate for athletic trainers.  Phil was well known for his kind nature and willingness to help those in need. If you were a secondary school AT and needed advice, you would call Mr. High School, Phil Hossler.  Phil received many accolades, including the ATSNJ Distinguished Service Award and was inducted into the ATSNJ, NJSCA, NJSIAA & NATA Halls of Fame. The Phil Hossler Loyalty and Commitment Award recognizes a deserving athletic trainer in New Jersey for their service to the athletic training profession, their setting, and their communities.

Media Award

To recognize persons or entities for their positive promotion or enhancement of the Athletic Training profession in New Jersey.

Victor (Vito) Recine

High School Scholarships

 Mr. Victor (Vito) Recine was an athletic trainer for over 40 years in New Jersey, and a leader in the development of our Athletic Training Practice Act. The ATSNJ awards a deserving high school student this scholarship in his name.

The recipient will be selected from high school seniors who live and attend school in New Jersey aspiring to pursue a career in athletic training.  Students must have served their school as a student aide and have applied to a college or university that sponsors a CAATE approved program.

Jack Weakley/ Richard Malacrea

College Scholarships

The Jack Weakley District Two Scholarship and the Richard Malacrea College Scholarship have been named for these 2 individuals who were champions of Athletic Training on a national level, and true friends to Athletic Trainers in the State of New Jersey.

The ATSNJ presents 2 scholarships in their name, to honor outstanding students from the ATSNJ membership, who have excelled both academically and stand out as athletic training students. The award is meant to encourage the recipients to continue their education toward an athletic training degree.
