In 2022, the 4th CORDEL Regional Workshop highlighted the need for a culture shift to support the rate at which new nuclear must be deployed to meet climate change commitments. Since then, the nuclear sector has seen a growing interest in international cooperation initiatives aiming to deploy new nuclear plants more quickly. National regulators, reactor vendors, utilities and international organizations have embarked on projects to license SMR designs across borders while aiming to minimize design changes and learn from each other’s best practices.

The 5th CORDEL Regional Workshop will bring together the leading players of these new initiatives to discuss the fruits of their new approaches. The nuclear sector can learn from their successes and apply methodologies to other projects, notably emerging nuclear nations looking to build their first power plants.

Hosted by KHNP and KEPCO E&C, the workshop will highlight the approaches that the organizations undertook to understand the lessons and best practice from the successful delivery of the Barakah NPP project in the UAE. The workshop will also provide insights into how the supply chain will have to respond to this increased demand; how the sector will have to work to develop the skills required to support its expansion; and what role international organizations must play to ensure that their efforts are complementary in supporting growth.

The workshop is in-person only (there is no option to attend virtually). Registration is complimentary, pending approval. Advanced registration is required by Friday 10 May at 17.00 BST.
