Passport Information

All persons traveling to Mexico must have a valid passport and round-trip airline ticket to enter.

It is strongly recommended that your passport be valid for at least six months beyond your return travel date, which would be September 2023. Please visit the following sites for more information on applying for a new passport or renewing a passport. If you are not a U.S. citizen, please refer to your country's passport application and renewal requirements.

IMPORTANT: It takes approximately 12 weeks to receive a new passport. Please consider paying for expedited service to ensure you receive it in time for the trip.

Although you may not require a visa to enter Mexico, please check to be sure you do not need a transit visa for any connecting flights through countries you might enter en route to Mexico. You will need to visit the government websites of those specific countries for information on how to apply for a transit visa. We also recommend checking the IATA travel website. Again, this process may take a while, so please check immediately once you receive your air itinerary.

Traveling to Mexico

To ensure your travel to Mexico is a hassle-free experience when passing through international borders, please have the following forms completed upon your arrival:

  • Valid passport
  • Customs declaration form (provided by airline staff)

Upon arrival at Cancun International Airport (CUN), please proceed to immigration and customs, where you will be asked to show your passport and boarding pass for clearance. After clearing customs, you may retrieve your luggage and head toward the exit. Please note you may be asked to stop for a routine random search of your luggage.

Note: If your luggage is lost, stay in the airport terminal near the baggage claim carousels. DO NOT pass through customs. Fill out a lost luggage report with your airline. You must receive a printout with a phone number and report/claim number. Once at the resort, the RAC Acima Hospitality Staff will assist you in calling to check on the status of your luggage.

Ground Transportation in Mexico

Upon arrival at the Cancun International Airport (CUN), Acima will provide transportation to the Secrets Riviera Cancun Resort & Spa for you and your guest. Please pick up your luggage from baggage claim and proceed to the exit. After exiting, continue straight until you pass through the second set of glass doors. Please ignore any vendors attempting to stop you and proceed outside until you see a transportation representative in a blue collared shirt with an Amstar name badge holding a sign with the Acima President's Club logo. The representative will escort you to your complimentary transportation to the Secrets Riviera Cancun Resort & Spa. Travel time to the resort is typically about half an hour.

When returning home, your arranged transportation will depart from the Secrets® Riviera Cancun Resort & Spa lobby. More information regarding your pickup time will be included on your departure notice in your welcome packet.

Please note that transportation will only be provided to/from the CUN Airport and the Secrets® Riviera Cancun Resort & Spa on the official program dates of February 27 & March 3. If you are extending your stay in Mexico, you will be responsible for securing your transportation to/from the resort and airport on the extension arrival and/or departure date(s).

International Phone Plans

To avoid excessive cellular charges during your time in Mexico, please contact your preferred carrier to check the available options for an international phone plan. It is recommended to secure an international plan prior to travel.

Currency

The currency in Mexico is the Mexican peso, but U.S. dollars are welcome in most places. Please note that the exchange rate fluctuates daily. Visit www.xe.com for the most current rate.

Most major credit cards are accepted in Mexico. It is a best practice to call your bank before leaving the country to advise of international travel dates on any card you plan to use while out of the country. When making major purchases, it is always recommended to charge items to your credit card. The rate of exchange on your credit card will be more favorable than the rate available locally. This is due to the large volume of foreign exchange generated by credit card companies at the more favorable "inter-banking" rate of exchange. The better rate is then passed along to the customer.

Electricity

The electricity standard in Mexico is 120 volt AC, the same as in the United States. A voltage converter will not be needed if you are traveling from the United States.

Weather

Typically, Cancun experiences ideal temperatures in February. Expect daytime temperatures in the low 80s. The evenings can be cooler, in the low 70s, so it is recommended to pack a light sweater.

Time Zone

Cancun observes Eastern Standard Time (EST) and does not recognize Daylight Savings Time. In February, when it is 12:00pm (Noon) in Cancun, it will be:

New York (Eastern) - 12:00pm (Noon)
Austin (Central) - 11:00am
Denver (Mountain) - 10:00am
Los Angeles (Pacific) - 9:00am
