Rajat Bannerji, MD, PhD, Hematologist/Oncologist, Chief, Hematologic Malignancies, Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey

Dr. Bannerji joined the team at Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey in 2012 following six years of conducting clinical research in drug development in the pharmaceutical industry. Prior to this, he was in full-time clinical practice as a hematologist-oncologist on active duty in the U.S. Army. This included four years as an attending physician at Madigan Army Medical Center preceded by three years of hematology-oncology fellowship training at the Walter Reed Army Medical Center. Dr. Bannerji completed his internship and residency in internal medicine at the Johns Hopkins Hospital after obtaining a PhD and MD from Cornell.  His clinical research is focused on the treatment of chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) and on the development of new treatments for B-cell non-Hodgkin lymphomas. Dr. Bannerji is also the author or co-author of numerous peer-reviewed publications and research meeting presentations (abstracts), as well as a book chapter. He has presented clinical trial results and have given invited lectures at both national and international scientific meetings. 

Alissa  Gabel, MSN, FNP-C, Advanced Practice Nurse, Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey

Alissa graduated from The College of New Jersey with a BS in Biology and then completed her Masters in Nursing at Rutgers University. She started her nursing career on a medical surgical floor but realized her true calling was oncology. She started at Rutgers Cancer Institute of NJ as an infusion nurse in 2011 and her APN career at CINJ in 2016 with a focus in hematologic malignancies- including multiple myeloma, lymphoma, and CLL.
