Dr. Hamid is Professor of Respiratory Medicine, Vice Chancellor for Medical & Health Sciences Colleges, and Dean of College of Medicine at the University of Sharjah, UAE. He was until recently the Strauss Chair of Respiratory Medicine, the Director of Meakins-Christie Institute at McGill University, Canada, and the Associate Director of McGill University Health Center Research Institute.

Dr. Hamid has published over 500 scientific articles in prestigious international journals with an H index of 115 and has contributed more than 150 chapters and review articles. He has published two textbooks.
