0 | Dr Dot Reid Senior Lecturer in Private Law University of Glasgow Dr Dot Reid is a senior lecturer in private law at the University of Glasgow. She teaches core LLB courses in contract law and succession law and has published articles in both fields. She has been a critical voice in relation to the recent proposals to reform the law of succession and has engaged in dialogue with both the Scottish Law Commission and the Scottish Government, most recently giving evidence to a Parliamentary Committee during the passage of the Succession (Scotland) Act 2016. Heather Thompson Partner Turcan Connell Heather deals primarily with tax and estate planning for individuals, trusts and family businesses. She advises on the use of UK and international trusts for succession planning and as part of tax-efficient structures. She also advises family businesses on tax planning for disposals and succession, and advises private clients on the tax aspects of land transactions, heritage property and maintenance funds. Heather also deals with charity law including the establishment of charitable trusts and companies, and VAT for charities. After graduating in law from Cambridge University, Heather trained with Berwin Leighton (now Berwin Leighton Paisner) in London and went on to work as an assistant solicitor. She joined W&J Burness in 1987, and became a partner 1992. She joined Turcan Connell in December 1997. She is qualified as a solicitor in Scotland and in England and Wales, is a member of the Law Society of Scotland's Trust Law Committee, and is a member of STEP. Dr Gordon M Wyllie With over three decades' worth of experience, Gordon convenes the Society's Trust and Executry Sub-Committee. He was head of the executry department at the then Strathern & Blair WS before taking up a similar position as head of charity and private client at the erstwhile firm of Biggart Baillie & Gifford WS. He was then an Asset Protection partner in the niche private client firm of Bird Semple where he then retired when the firm amalgamated. He was also the Scottish member of the European Commission's Group of International Experts (PRM III and IV) on Succession and Wills, and wrote the Scottish contribution to the International Bar Association's International Directory of Succession Terms. He is currently the managing trustee on a number of trusts and foundations, and a member of the Charity Law Association. | |
