Solving the jigsaw uses violence prevention strategies to engage children, parents, schools and communities to build community strategies to engage children, parents, schools and communities to build community responsibility, capacity, resilience and wellbeing.
- Violence and bullying has a significant impact that contributes to cumulative harm, with children who are bullied showing higher levels of stress, anxiety, depression, illness and suicidal ideation.
- Violence and bullying is gendered and targeted, with bullies four times more likely to take part in serious crime, disengage from school and use drugs and alcohol
- More and more children have been reported as being present at family violence incidents, with 60,829 family violence incidents reported by Vic police
- 29% of women reported that they had experienced physical and/or sexual violence before the age of 16 years
Violence, bullying and abuse is a preventable community issue that can be addressed through challenging and changing beliefs, attitudes and creating gender equity.
Engaging children and young people in early intervention and prevention programs are more likely to have significant benefits and contribute to addressing gender inequity and ongoing social change.
