Upper Michigan Legal Institute 2019

State Bar of Michigan
Upper Michigan Legal Institute

June 14–15
Grand Hotel | Mackinac Island

The Upper Michigan Legal Institute is held each year at the Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island. Topics such as family law, probate & estate planning, and real property law are mainstays of the Institute, along with case law updates and emerging issues. This event is open to all State Bar of Michigan members, with a focus on law-related topics specific to upper Michigan attorneys.

Friday's programming starts with an all-new joint keynote session with attendees from the Bar Leadership Forum. Author Steve Hughes will speak on Influence: The Art and Science of Changing Minds. In this session you will learn how to overcome the common mistakes lawyers make when trying to change someone's mind and techniques to win over any skeptic. Steve, author of the book Captivate, will show you how to utilize the four drivers of persuasion to gain buy-in and acceptance of your ideas and help you leave behind ineffective conventional wisdom.
