The inaugural meeting of the Singularity User Group (SUG)
Abstract deadline EXTENDED to: Friday, February 15, 2019, 11:59 pm PST

This inaugural meeting of the Singularity User Group (SUG) is an opportunity for the community to share knowledge and learn from one another.   We therefore invite presentations that exhibit the broad diversity of how Singularity is being used to achieve your research and business objectives. We’ve set aside significant parts of the two-day technical program for contributed talks, whether a work in progress project or a polished solution. We encourage submissions along the following lines, but welcome all submissions:

● Use cases for Singularity - from scientific computing, data analysis, machine learning, enterprise computing and beyond

● Migrating from Singularity 2.x to 3.x - from lessons learned to best practices derived through actual experience

● Contributor’s Corner - showcasing code contributions to Singularity and the community

● Compliance with the Open Containers Initiative (OCI) standards and interoperability

● Orchestrating Singularity containers - lessons learned to best practices derived through experience with, e.g., HashiCorp Nomad, Kubernetes, etc.

● The broader container ecosystem - from successes to challenges and opportunities

● Transitioning to Singularity from other containerization approaches

● Enabling DevOps via Singularity - closing the gap between development and operations through (real-time) continuous integration and development (CI/CD)

● Emerging requirements for containerization in general, and Singularity in particular

● Workflow management - handling dependencies between containerized applications with NextFlow

● Compute-services hybrid use cases - streaming workloads, real-time analysis, and data pipelining into compute focused services

● Training others how to move their applications to Singularity

For this inaugural event, we’re keeping the submission process exceedingly simple: by the deadline, please direct the following via email to sug@sdsc.edu:

●  Authors of the contributed talk and their affiliations (we’ll assume you’re the speaker, unless you indicate otherwise)

● The title of your contributed talk

● An abstract for your contributed talk – a brief paragraph that describes your work and how it will contribute knowledge and experience to the community. Feel free to include URLs that provide additional context.

● Submissions will be accepted in the form of e-mail text, PDF, or Word doc. Accepted abstracts will be published on the event website.

Note: At this point, we anticipate allocating 25 minutes for each contributed talk - 20 minutes for your presentation/demonstration followed by a 5-minute Q&A session.

Space and time are limited for this inaugural edition of SUG. Therefore, we look forward to your earliest response regarding active participation by submitting a contributed talk, and by registering for the event.
