In today's political climate, bias issues are suddenly much more charged for our students. How can we open up critical discussions about race, immigration status, sexual orientation, gender identity, sexism, ableism, religion and more to protect our students and encourage all to be strong allies? In this interactive session, filmmaker Debra Chasnoff will use excerpts from her Respect for All documentaries to model strategies we can use in our schools.

This session will review suicidal risk and protective factors for LGBTQ youth and introduce the latest research and statistics. The second half will focus on interventions at the individual, group and societal level to reduce and prevent LGBTQ youth suicide.

1:15 pm - 2:45 pm Trauma Informed Practice: What is it, and does it need to be different for LGBTQ youth?

This workshop will explore what trauma is and how we can work to better respond to it within our agencies, practices and school settings. The overlay between trauma and sexual orientation/gender identity will be highlighted with an emphasis on providing practical suggestions for creating a more trauma informed system.
