Agenda

Day 1 – PM

Tue 22 September

LOCATION: MERCURE HOTEL VILLEFRANCHE

Introduction on system simulation solutions applied to xEV

Presentation + demo
1 hour

During this 1 hour introduction we will look at the costs and benefits of modeling techniques and how to maximize value that can be create with it. It’s not about creating a model, but about using simulation as a value creator to support better design choices. We will demonstrate what is to be expected from an effective modeling solution to support electrified vehicle design

First level of electric vehicle model starting from few data and establish first thermal requirements

Hands-on
1 hour

To accelerate, secure and optimize the design of a Thermal Management System (TMS), a modeling software need to help delivering "good enough models". Not only at every stage of the design cycle but also for each vehicle system and subsystem. In this 1 hour practical session we will model and size an electric vehicle subject to severe thermal conditions, with very limited data. Connecting the TMS to the vehicle allows direct use of the vehicle’s driving scenario and operating conditions, typically climbing the Death Valley highway at 100km/h.

Usage of models to develop and validate TMS architecture and sizing, up to integration

Presentation + demo
1 hour

During this 1 hour session, we will demonstrate the continuity of our integrated toolchain to model the TMS itself. We will show how to select the best heat-exchanger modeling strategy and set all required parameters. We'll then explain how to integrate the correctly-sized system (done on critical operating points) into the vehicle dynamic model to perform various analysis on any possible driving scenario.

Day 1 – PM

Wed 13 May

LOCATION: MERCURE HOTEL VILLEFRANCHE

Fast charging, a new critical operating cycle: adapt TMS leveraging the power of “stupid” models

Hands-on + demo
1 hour

To overcome the “range anxiety” issue, fast charging has become one of the most common strategies. If it has proven to be very effective in increasing the “effective range”, this charging method generates extreme amounts of heat which need to be properly handled in order to avoid damaging the battery itself. During 1 hour we will demonstrate how even the simplest model can be used to prove that the TMS needs to be adapted in order to handle fast charging, focusing on the advantages in terms of charging time and establishing a first thermal requirement during the process. Then we will virtually integrate our design into the vehicle, validate sizing and adapt the TMS by connecting it to the HVAC loop if needed.

Accelerating the battery design and integration cycle using the right tool at the right time

Presentation + demo
1 hour

Getting the vehicle team on board, developing an advanced thermal management system dealing with fast charging is one of the many steps of the “battery integration journey”. During this 1 hour session we will expose and demonstrate the complete Simcenter toolchain to model the battery, supporting every design steps from cell design to complete vehicle integration.

Value and feasibility of advanced system models for electrified vehicle

Presentation + demo
1 hour

In this 1 hour session, more advanced use cases will highlight how more detailed components and subsystems models are used in the xEV design phase based on real customer challenges.

Day 2 – AM

Thur 14 May

LOCATION: VEM FACTILITY

Advanced methods and value of VEM testing to feed, improve and validate simulation

Presentation + test demo on Tesla Model S
2 hours

In this 1 hour session, the unique process of Siemens to use acquired test data at full vehicle or component level will be demonstrated using actual measurements on a Tesla Model S and the value of the test data in the xEV development cycle in combination with simulation will be highlighted through a presentation.

Benchmarking by getting maximum information out of test data using models

Presentation + hands-on
1 hour

During 1 hour, we will introduce the concept of acquiring test data on benchmark vehicles and delivering that as closed loop system models for usage in the target setting phase of an xEV vehicle development. This methodology will be fully demonstrated based on a model of the Tesla Model 3, created using a limited set of operational test data.

Day 2 – PM

Wed 23 September

LOCATION: MERCURE HOTEL VILLEFRANCHE

The advantages of machine learning to bridge between test–1D–3D–controls

Presentation + demo
1 hour

Neural networks are a smart mathematical methods for optimization and are often categorized as machine learning techniques. In this 1 hour presentation the applications of machine learning for xEV development are demonstrated through examples from different phases of the development cycle.

A unique way to explore new architectures and control strategies in early concept stages

Presentation + demo
1 hour

When exploring new designs in early concept phase, innovative methods are required to describe the different design solutions and take into consideration the optimal control for each design alternative. In this presentation, we'll introduce a new innovative platform that allows users to explore new xEV designs and their impact on different attributes before starting the real development cycle.

Maximizing models ROI deploying effective MBD

Presentation + demo
1 hour

To maximize the ROI of modeling efforts, simulation must be accessible to an extended user community. Promoting model usage at early stages of every project requires the development of models that are more accessible and easy to use and to retrieve. Spreading simulation into the design community need to be done under the supervision of modeling experts. During this 1 hour presentation, we will demonstrate how our simulation platform provides the simulation community with a unique and effective way to share their work and increase value creation by developing and deploying application-oriented solutions to designers.
