Mountain West Transforming Care Conference 2023
 

ABSTRACT SUBMISSION

The 2023 Mountain West Transforming Care Conference is an accredited conference focusing on developing the clinical skills and knowledge to care for the LGBTQIA+ population. The conference focuses on gender-affirming care, HIV PrEP & PEP, sexual health and wellness, STI prevention and treatment, mental health, suicide prevention, substance use treatment, and new this year – reproductive health and family planning.

We are looking for speakers for this conference who can deliver high-quality, engaging talks that are intersectional, trauma-informed, and which have an equity lens.

Themes for this conference include:

Gender-affirming care, including gender-affirming hormone therapy (GAHT)
- Intro to GAHT for the non-prescriber
- Advanced topics and cases for the non-prescriber
- Gender-affirming gynecologic care
- The harms of anti-trans legislation
- Centering trans care with trans voices

HIV PrEP/STI prevention and treatment
- Updates to HIV PrEP (particularly information about clinical pearls for prescribing CAB LA/Apretude)
- STI diagnosis and treatment updates
- Mpox (formerly known as "monkeypox") diagnosis, treatment, and prevention
- HIV Rapid Start ART (a “how to” for primary care clinicians)
- Treating Hepatitis C in the primary care setting

Substance use disorder diagnosis and treatment
- Suboxone induction and maintenance in the primary care setting
- Other medications for opioid use disorders (MOUD)
- Pharmacology for other substance use disorders

Mental health
- Effective suicide prevention strategies
- Motivational interviewing for addiction in a primary care setting

Sexual health and wellness
- The ins and outs of anal sex
- Discussing kink with your patients in an affirming way
- Discussing sexual health, wellness, and practices with LGBTQ patients

Reproductive health and family planning using a gender-informed lens
- Abortion access in the United States post-Dobbs
- At-home medication-assisted abortions – what primary care providers need to know

Education and residency training
- Teaching GAHT, PrEP, and LGBTQ health in a residency setting – must-dos and don’ts

 

This list of topics is just a starting point. We are interested in receiving abstract submissions about all topics related to the themes mentioned above.
