Mopani Camp is situated on a rocky rise in the Kruger National Park in South Africa, with a magnificent view over the Pioneer Dam. The nearest entrance is Phalaborwa Gate, which is 74km (46 miles) away. The Airport is 4km (2.5 miles) from Phalaborwa Gate.

Health & Vaccinations

Malaria: The Kruger National Park is designated as a malaria area and it is advisable to take malaria prophylaxy for the duration of your visit to the Lowveld. Please consult with your medical practitioner for advice on malaria and relevant vaccinations.  Medical practitioner is available on site.

Climate

Mopani Camp (Kruger) normally receives rain during mid-summer (approx 353mm of rain per year). The lowest rainfall occurs in June (0mm). The average midday temperatures range from 24.5°C in July to 31.7°C in January. The region is the coldest during July when the mercury drops to 8.7°C on average during the night.

During September 2016, the daily temperatures should be pleasant during the day (upper 20s degrees C) and chilly in the evenings/early mornings (around 16 degrees C). It is advisable to bring a fleece or jacket and a warm hat for early morning game drives – although these can be purchased at the camp store.

Domestic Flights to and from Phalaborwa Airport

  • The distance between the Gate and the camp is 78km. Please bear in mind the speed limit is 50km per hour so please allow at least 2 hrs from the gate to the camp
