2023 Applied Skills in Ergonomics

Applied Skills in Ergonomics: Analysis, Prevention Through Design, and Implementation
07/26 - 07/28/2023
Event Description:

This 3-day, in-person workshop, provides guided practice in advance measurement techniques used by practitioners in the field. Prior to the in-person session, learners will be required to complete one day of online pre-work to review concepts that will be applied throughout the workshop.

During our three days together, attendees will perform a job analysis on simulated work tasks at our Work Simulation Center at the Richmond Field Station. The analysis will include physical exposure measurements, addressing validity and reliability measures, and the interpretation of those measures using evidence-based threshold limit values and risk assessment tools. Learners will also work in teams to apply the interactive design process and to develop solutions to mitigate exposure. Teams will address real-world organizational scenarios from a macro ergonomics perspective, employing a systems approach and cognitive ergonomics principles. This scenario-based approach to learning will challenge participants to apply what they've learned throughout the Online Human Factors and Ergonomics Training Program, and to collaborate with peers to gain practical experience in human-centered assessment and design.

Target Audience:

This activity is intended for learners who have completed the Online Human Factors and Ergonomics (HF/E) Training Program as a capstone experience and synthesis of their online education. It is intended for ergonomists, athletic trainers, physical therapists, occupational therapists, industrial hygienists, industrial / mechanical engineers, safety professionals, and others involved in ergonomic exposure assessment.

Experience with the following tools is considered a prerequisite for a positive and beneficial experience: Maximum Acceptable Effort (MAE) Equation, Recommended Cumulative Recovery Allowance (RCRA), ACGIH TLV for Hand Activity, Revised NIOSH Lifting Equation (RNLE), Liberty Mutual MMH Equation, IDEAS, Arm Force Field Method, HandPak

Learners who have completed the Online HF/E Program will be given registration priority for this event. This activity will be opened to non-program learners as space allows.
