Pat began his career as a teacher, coach, and dorm parent at Woodberry Forest School (VA) in 1970 - 1980, followed by two headships, Stuart Hall (VA) 1980-1989, and Pomfret School (CT) from 1989 – 1993. Bassett served as the president of ISACS, the Independent Schools Association of the Central States, from 1993 – 2001, and then president of NAIS, the National Association of Independent Schools, from 2001 to 2013, after which time he retired and co-founded with Rich Odell Heads Up Educational Consulting, LLC, 2013-2018.
