CONFERENCE INFORMATION

OFFICIAL VENUE of the Ikebana International 18th North & Central American Regional Conference will be the Sheraton Dallas Downtown Hotel where the conference events will be held during the five days from Sunday, October 27 to Thursday, October 31, 2019.


REGISTRATION FEE:

  • Registration (September 20 - January 15, 2019) - $700.00
  • Late Registration (January 16 - September 30, 2019) - $800.00

  • Ikebana Demonstrations
  • Ikebana Exhibition (entering an arrangement and/or viewing)

  • Business Meetings
A guest (spouse or accompanying person) may participate in all of the events above for an additional fee except the entering of an arrangement in the Exhibition and Business Meetings. You may choose to purchase the full registration fee or only some of the activities for your guest on the Options page during the registration process.

During the registration process, members will also be able to register and pay for workshops and tours. See the Workshops and Tours pages for more information.

PROGRAM INCLUSIONS AND OPTIONS

OPENING CEREMONY
Marks the opening of the Ikebana Exhibition on Monday evening.

WELCOME DINNER
Following the opening of the Exhibition on Monday evening, dinner will be held in the Sheraton Dallas Hotel Grand Hall.  Dinner will be a traditional Dallas / Fort Worth barbecue with entertainment by Midnight County.  Be sure to wear jeans, cowboy boots and bring your dancing feet!

IKEBANA EXHIBITION
Member arrangements will be displayed October 28 - 31.  Please see the "Requirements for Exhibitors" on the Exhibitors tab and sign up on the attendee page when you register if you would like to display an arrangement.

FRIENDSHIP ROOM
Open to all members to exchange ideas with members of other Chapters, see friends, enjoy refreshments and relax.  We want to continue the fine tradition to treat each other in the friendship room with trinkets from our different states and countries. Therefore, please feel free to bring something of your state, region or country to share with the other attendees.  
 
IKEBANA WORKSHOPS AND CULTURAL WORKSHOPS will take place on Tuesday and Thursday. Please see descriptions for each on the Workshops tab of this website. 

ARTIST MARKET (Ginza)
There will be an extensive Artist Market with more than six booths of containers and unique items to add to your Ikebana collection. We will also have basic items available. In addition, Elaine Jo's new book, "At Home with Ikebana", will be available. She will be signing her book on Monday, October 28.  On Monday afternoon, a reception will take place at the nearby Paper Arts, a "paper wonderland". Every kind of paper you can imagine is at Paper Arts.  Transportation to and from will be available.
 
DEMONSTRATIONS will take place on Wednesday.
  • 9:30 am - 10:30 am     Sogetsu School of Ikebana presented by Soho Sakai, Riji, AIFD
    • Soho Sakai says “I am very lucky; I love people, flowers, nature and what I am doing.”  In this demonstration, she will show you why!  Using her unique perspective on maximizing the flower’s potential, she will show you how to take your Ikebana exhibit to the next level.   
  • 11:00 am - 12:00 pm    Ohara School of Ikebana presented by Jose Salcedo, 1st Term Master
    • Ohara's beginning lessons train students to become master arrangers.  Professor Salcedo will show how a beginner's arrangement can easily become a Master level creation.
  • 12:00 pm - 1:15 pm     Break for lunch. 
  • 1:15 pm - 2:15 pm       Ichiyo School of Ikebana presented by Elaine Jo, Executive Master
    • “All the right places; all the right spaces”.  The Ichiyo School places strong emphasis on Ikebana placement in the home and public spaces. Master Jo will present arrangements which will represent places like a tokonoma, narrow spaces, tall space centerpieces, coffee tables, public places, etc.
  • 2:15 pm - 3:00 pm       Break for snack 
  • 3:00 pm - 4:30 pm       Ikenobo School of Ikebana presented by Senko Ikenobo, Ph.D.,                                                         Headmaster Designate of Ikenobo
IMPORTANT NOTE:  Use of mobile phones or cameras to photograph or videotape is strictly prohibited during the demonstrations.  After each demonstration is concluded, there will be opportunities for taking photos.

GROW IKEBANA! NORTH AMERICA, an informal Forum, is an opportunity for members of other cities, states, or countries to share ways to increase membership, as many chapters are seeing a decline in membership. Forum to be held during the afternoon break in demonstrations on Wednesday.  

BUSINESS MEETINGS held during the Conference are important for the development of our organization. All member registrants may attend the Business Meetings. Only Delegates (and Alternates) appointed by individual Chapters are allowed to speak and vote.

LOCAL TOURS are available to members and guests. See the sights of Dallas and Fort Worth by selecting your choice of tour on the Options tab when you register.

SAYONARA DINNER will be held at the Sheraton Dallas Downtown Hotel on Thursday evening to conclude the conference.
      ATTIRE: Semi-Formal - Jacket and tie for gentlemen and cocktail dress, pantsuit or Kimono for women.


CANCELLATION POLICY Cancellations must be emailed to (click here): Cancellations.
   Full refunds for cancellation will not be given. The amount of the Conference fee that will be refunded after cancellation is as follows:
  • 85% refund from now to February 15, 2019
  • 50% refund from February 16 - April 29, 2019
  • No refund will be made for any cancellation requests received April 30, 2019 or later
NOTE: Tickets will be open to the public in August 2019 for the Demonstrations and Exhibitions.
