Marco Bernacchioni is Strategic Industry Manager at Advanced Microwave Engineering. He has more than 10 years of experience in the development of engineering solutions and information technology products and software, with a particular focus on safety applications in industrial environments. Member of PEMA Safety Committee from its launch, he is in charge of the 'Collision prevention at ports and terminals' PEMA Information Paper.

Jan Boermans is Regional HSE Director Europe and Russia for global terminal operator DP World, a position he has held for nearly 10 years. Jan has close to 20 years' experience in health and safety management, having previously spent 9 years as Regional H&S Manager for Amcor PET Packaging. A long-time member of ISP, Jan assumed the position of ISP Chair in June 2014.

Keith Bradley, a chemist by profession, works for the Maritime and Coastguard Agency as Hazardous Cargoes Adviser following a career working in a variety of roles within the chemical industry. His MCA post also has a counter pollution element when the incident or issue involves hazardous noxious substances (HNS) e.g. MSC Napoli and MSC Flaminia. Currently Keith represents the UK at the International Maritime Organisation on the IMDG Code and other containerised cargo issues and is a member of the UK delegation to the UN sub-committtee of experts on the transport of dangerous goods. He has represented the UK at the scoping meeting at ILO, and at the last meeting of the Group of Experts, on the revision of the IMO/ILO/UNECE Guidelines for packing of cargo transport units.

Bill Brassington is an independent safety and security consultant  with over 15 years’ experience in the container industry, including time with P&O Containers and GE SeaCo Services. He is an active member of the ISO’s Technical Committee 104 (freight containers) where he now chairs the Sub-committee on special containers. He also attends the IMO DSC Sub-committee as an NGO technical expert and regularly participates in working groups involved with container safety and security. For the last six years Bill has provided consultancy to the container industry, covering not only the safety and security of the container, but also the cargoes carried. He is the author of the research study “Safety in the supply chain in relation to packing of containers” published by the ILO in 2011 and is currently editing the “Code of practice for packing cargo transport units (CTUs)” for the IMO, ILO and UNECE.

Richard Brough started his career in 1969 with the Merchant Navy, culminating in command level. After 20 years at sea, he came ashore and worked in various port and stevedoring management positions until 2004, when he established his own port and logistics consultancy. From 2008-2011 he also launched, ran and sold UK Port Services Ltd. As well as his board role, Richard provides ICHCA International’s Technical Advisor service and is deeply involved in the association’s work with various international agencies and regulatory bodies. 

Peter Brusseleers is a qualified Occupational, Health & Safety Advisor, with almost 20 years of HSE experience within stevedoring. In his current HSE role at Terminal Investment Limited, he analyses the safety performance of TIL’s terminal portfolio and advises the business unit management and the board of directors in HSE matters. Previous professional experience includes Regional S&E training manager and Safety Supervisor at DP World engaged in incident reporting and investigation, behavioural based safety programs and peer to peer reviews in an international environment.

Jorge Martín is a MBA Industrial Euro engineer with over 20 year experience in the shipping/ports industry, developed within different technical and logistics fields: procurement, fleet management, facilities and equipment maintenance & repair, quality assurance, security, HSE, due diligence site audits, etc. He has worked for both domestic and global companies such as AP Moller group and today for Noatum Ports at its headquarters in Valencia where he holds different responsibilities in the operations department at a corporate level. Before that he had the opportunity of getting his hands dirty with first hand experience at the pier and the yard for quite some years, developing green field projects and running existing terminals. Regular speaker at international conferences and forum as well as a frequent article producer among prestigious magazines.

Ian Dunmill first worked as a systems engineer, designing electronic weighing systems for process control, as well as stand-alone industrial weighing equipment. He joined the United Kingdom’s National Weights and Measures Laboratory in 1985 as a type approval engineer, first working on industrial, then retail weighing equipment. He became head of the section responsible for the type approval of petrol pumps in 1988 and was closely involved in the development of OIML R 117 and R 118. In 1993, Ian became NWML’s OIML Manager, responsible for the secretariat of OIML TC 9/SC 2 Automatic weighing instruments, as well as being the UK’s point of contact for all OIML matters. Ian became Assistant Director at the BIML in Paris in 1999, since when he has been responsible for following the technical activities and publications of a number of OIML technical committees, subcommittees and project groups (TCs/SCs/PGs), as well as for the revision of the OIML’s technical work procedures. He also has particular responsibility for the OIML’s developing country activities. He is the OIML’s contact point for liaisons with the WTO, UNIDO and ISO DEVCO, as well as following the regional activities of AFRIMETS and SADC SQAM structures.

John Foord has spent all of his working life in the shipping industry, both at sea and ashore. He started his career as a foreign-going officer and after coming ashore joined the ship agency sector as a representative of both liner and tramp owners. John has been involved with the container shipping industry since the mid 1970’s, beginning in vessel operations and stowage coordination for a number of major Far Eastern carriers. Since then he has gained senior management experience in the container trades, from the perspective of both the carrier and the agent. John is therefore very familiar with the problems and risks associated with incorrect container weight declarations. In addition to his practical experience, John has also played a significant role in promoting the ship agency sector in the UK and internationally. He is currently President Designate of FONASBA, the international ship agents and ship brokers’ representative organisation, as well as Chairman of its Liner & Port Agency Committee. In addition, John is Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers and a past Chairman of its Federation Council, the FONASBA member in the United Kingdom.

Matthew is a Senior Associate at Holman Fenwick Willan (HFW) and specialises in transactional corporate and commercial law, with extensive experience in container shipping. Matthew has worked on commercial contracts for shippers, forwarders, shipping lines and terminal operators. He also has particular expertise in multi-jurisdictional transactions and international infrastructure projects in a number of different sectors including shipping (container, roll-on / roll-off and dry bulk); ports and terminals; logistics contracts and arrangements; and multimodal transport. Before joining HFW, Matthew was employed by a global shipping and industrial conglomerate working in a variety of commercial and operational roles in the UK and Denmark which has provided him with a sound understanding of the liner shipping and logistics industries.

Laurence Jones is a qualified engineer with over 40 years extensive management, engineering, maintenance, operations, industrial relations and logistics experience spanning manufacturing, mining and the global ports and terminals industry. In his current role as Risk Assessment Director for the TT Club, he provides advice and support in underwriting decisions and claims assessment and works proactively with clients and industry worldwide to identify areas where risks may be reduced. In addition to his role as Deputy Chairman for ICHCA International, he is a Director of ICHCA Australia and sits on ICHCA’s ISP Expert Panel. He is a member of the IAPH Safety, Security & Environment Committee and the PEMA Safety and Special Events & Education Committees.

Lars Kjaer has been with the World Shipping Council since its inception in 2000 and currently manages the WSC's activities in Europe regarding supply chain and cargo security policies. Additionally, he serves as the industry representative on a number of committees of the International Maritime Organization (IMO), the International Organization of Standards (ISO) and the World Customs Organization (WCO). Prior to joining the World Shipping Council, Lars served as the Washington Representative for the Council of European and Japanese Shipowners' Associations (CENSA) from 1999 to 2000. Before joining CENSA, Lars was with the Danish Ministry of foreign Affairs, and served as counselor at the Royal Danish Embassy in Washington, D.C. (1993-98). During that tenure he was also chairman of the Cotton Club of foreign transportation counselors in Washington.

Loukas Kontogiannis is one of two technical officers in the Maritime Safety Division of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) focusing on cargo related matters and also acts as co-Secretary to the Sub-Committee on Carriage of Cargoes and Containers (CCC). He has supported the Maritime Safety Committee during the approval and adoption of a number of codes and amendments to IMO Conventions, including amendments to SOLAS chapter VI relating to the verification of the gross mass of containers, the IMO/ILO/UNECE Code of Practice for the Safe Packing of Cargo Transport Units (CTU Code), the Informative material related to the CTU Code and the International Code of Safety for Ships using Gases or other Low-flashpoint Fuels (IGF Code).

Marc Lefebvre began his professional career in the French Navy as Officer specialized in telecommunications and officer of the watch on several type of warships. He acted also as crew member in charge of the tactical navigation on board warplanes. In 2004, he joined CMA CGM. After a short experience as stowage coordinator, he took the responsibility of the Department in charge of the dangerous goods and later the safety supply chain for the cargo packed in containers. Now, he is in charge of the safety and the security of the goods packed in containers and the implementation of SSE standards in Terminals where CMA CGM is shareholder. He is MBA graduated in addition to his military qualifications.

Alan Long joined Maritime Cargo Processing plc in December 1987, having spent 15 years with HM Customs & Excise and is now the Company’s Chief Executive. He has represented UK trade at European and international level within the UN/CEFACT process. He is also a member of the IAPH Committee on Trade Facilitation & Port Community Systems and represents that Committee at the WCO Information Management Sub-Committee (IMSC) and at the European Commission’s Trade Contact Group. MCP is a Founding Member of the International Port Community Systems Association (IPCSA) and Alan is its current Chairman.

Lars Meurling is Vice President, Marketing and Product Business Development at Bromma Conquip, the world leader in crane spreaders. Lars has spent many years at the company and has led development efforts in the ship-to-shore and mobile harbour crane business sectors.

Peregrine Storrs-Fox has been with the TT Club since 1984, firstly handling claims and providing advice to all types of transport and logistics operators, including ports and terminals, until the late 1990s when he began directing claims operations worldwide for the Club. Since 2002, he has led the TT Club's internal risk management framework as well as directing its loss prevention services to Members. In this latter role he has particularly developed links with like-minded trade organisations and NGOs with a view to promote good practice in health and safety matters as well as general operations.

Richard Thomas works for the Office of Rail and Road (ORR) as a Railway Safety Inspector, in the Railway Safety Directorate.  Based in their Manchester office, his current position is in ORR's Network Rail Division in the track project team. The role of the team is to hold Network Rail to account concerning its management of Health and Safety risk across its track asset nationally.  Richard has over 25 years’ experience in Health and Safety regulation and has been working in the rail sector with ORR since February 2006. Prior to this he spent 17 years as a Health and Safety Inspector with the Health and Safety Executive (HSE), working in a range of industry sectors from Agriculture to Chemical manufacturing.

Chris Welsh was appointed Secretary General of the Global Shippers’ Forum in 2011 after serving as Secretary General of the European Shippers’ Council (ESC) from 1997-2002 where he played a prominent role in deregulating EU shipping and air cargo markets. Chris has held a variety of senior management roles for the UK Freight Transport Association, most notably establishing the FTA’s operations in Brussels and Ireland. Chris holds an MBA and is a Chartered Member of the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CMILT) and a Member of the Chartered Management Institute (MCMI).

Rachael has charted key trends in global container logistics, transport and ports for over 25 years. She founded Next Level Information (NLI) in 1999 to provide conference production, event management, strategic consulting and PR services. Rachael acts as both Secretary General to the Ports Equipment Manufacturers Association (PEMA) and CEO Secretariat for the International Cargo Handling Co-ordination Association (ICHCA). She is the co-founder of Cool Logistics Resources (CLR), that organises a suite of international conferences focussed on the global movement of temperature-controlled goods.

Robert Windsor has worked in the freight forwarding sector for over 35 years, during which time he has had operational responsibility for both warehousing and maritime departments in medium/large UK freight forwarders. Seven and a half years ago he joined BIFA , the UK trade association representing freight forwarders, where he has held the maritime brief. BIFA is a member of CLECAT, a Brussels based trade association representing forwarders at the EU level, who he is representing at today’s event. At both an EU and UK level he has been actively involved with regulators, freight forwarders and other parties looking at the issues resulting from the SOLAS amendment and the most practical methods in which to implement them.

Beat Zwygart established LASSTEC in 2004, a container load-weighing and accident-prevention system. Beat has accumulated many years’ experience in the container handling industry including founding and directing the marketing company for ELME’s Crane Spreader division. LASSTEC was aquired by Conductix Wampfler in September 2013 and Beat continues to work for Conductix to integrate the product into the group worldwide.
