Catina Barrett

Women’s Leadership Network

By background, Catrina is a a teacher, trainer, researcher, public health specialist and nurse. Her teaching and training career includes offender, vocational, adult community learning, and higher education. She has worked at local, regional, national and international levels. The latter as a specialist adviser to the World Health Organisation.

Currently Catrina is:
  • a Women’s Leadership Network partner
  • writing a provocation for FETL on gender equality in the FE sector
  • a member of the DfE Apprenticeships Equality and Diversity Advisory Group
  • a commissioner for the Centre for Mental Health Commission for Equality 
From 2015-18, she worked for the DfE leading the Community Learning and Mental Health project, working with 62 pilot sites and involving 23,000 learners to research the impact of participation in learning on mental health and wellbeing. Catrina is the founding member of the independent Mental Health in Further Education (MHFE) Network, a crowd created and curated project sustaining a virtual network, website and programme of activities for anyone with an interest in adult education and mental health.
 
In the past, she has worked for the Learning and Work Institute as Head of Inclusion and led on the (£1M) Equality and Diversity Innovation Fund, and for LSIS taking the strategic and operational leadership of national equality, diversity and inclusion, and contributing equalites support as part of the then Intervention Team for providers graded 4 by Ofsted.
