Judi’s Top 10+ Picks in Yellowknife (My Hometown)

Yellowknife’s Old Town - Located on a rocky point of land on Yellowknife’s Great Slave Lake waterfront. Old Town Yellowknife is one of my favourite areas and where I typically hang out. Old Town holds some of the coolest pioneer history as well as some of Yellowknife’s best restaurants and art shops.

The Woodyard Brewhouse & Eatery / NWT Brewing Co - The northernmost brewery in Canada-stop in and enjoy a local craft beer and fabulous food. It truly is one of a kind. You Gotta Eat & Drink Here!

Bush Pilot’s Monument - Pilot's Monument is a fitting tribute to those pioneers who helped to open up the north, those who gave their lives, and those who continue to fly people and goods where there is no other transport options. To get a 360º view of Yellowknife and the surrounding area head up to the Bush Pilot Monument where you can enjoy views of Great Slave Lake, Back Bay, Yellowknife Bay, Old Town Yellowknife, Jolliffe Island and Frame Lake.

Gallery of the Midnight Sun Trading Post - Gallery of the Midnight Sun is the NWT's largest gallery and gift shop offering fine arts and crafts from across the North. Located in Yellowknife's historic Old Town.

Down to Earth Gallery - Located next to the Gallery of the Midnight Sun, this place is slightly smaller but filled with some wonderful art pieces.

Ragged Ass Road - Take a walk down this street located in Old Town. Ragged Ass Road is a short unpaved residential street in the Old Town, and its name started as a joke in 1970 by resident Lou Rocher. When a difficult prospecting season yielded little income, convincing residents that they were 'ragged ass broke', they decided that that should be the name of the street. Singer Tom Cochrane named his 1995 album after it, including a song about the street.

Oldtown Glassworks - Oldtown Glassworks located in the heart of Yellowknife's historic Old Town. Old Town Glassworks is a workers’ cooperative that has been creating beautiful recycled glassware from rescued bottles on the shores of Great Slave Lake since 1994, and use original northern patterns by local artists. You Gotta get a personal, handmade souvenir here!!
