Prof Michael Doherty

Professor of Rheumatology and Head of Academic Rheumatology at the University of Nottingham

 
Michael Doherty is Professor of Rheumatology and Head of Academic Rheumatology at the University of Nottingham. His principal research interests are: epidemiological, genetic and clinical aspects of osteoarthritis, gout and calcium pyrophosphate deposition; community-based clinical trials; contextual response; evidence-based practice and guideline development.

He is a past editor of Annals of the Rheumatic Diseases; has co-chaired EULAR Task Forces for recommendations on osteoarthritis, gout and calcium pyrophosphate arthritis; and is a clinical expert in NICE appraisals relating to osteoarthritis and gout. He was awarded the OARSI Clinical Research award for 2012.

   
Dr Colin Holden

Dr Colin A Holden is a consultant dermatologist with over 20 years’ experience managing all types of skin diseases including skin cancer. He also provides the children's dermatology service.

His particular interest is caring for patients suffering from severe skin rashes such as psoriasis and eczema. He supervises the allergy testing of eczema and the light treatment of psoriasis.

Dr Holden was appointed consultant dermatologist to Epsom and St Helier University Hospitals NHS Trust in 1986. Since then he has had an active role in developing the dermatology service within the Trust and also been very active regionally and nationally as secretary to the British Association of Dermatologists, secretary to the British Skin Foundation and advisor to the National Eczema Society, the Psoriasis Association and the All Party Parliamentary Group on Skin. He has had the honour to be president of the British Association of Dermatologists (the national body governing UK dermatologists).

   
Prof Iain McInnes

Director of the Institute of Infection, Immunity and Inflammation in the University of Glasgow


Iain McInnes is Director of the Institute of Infection, Immunity and Inflammation in the University of Glasgow and was recently appointed as the Muirhead Professor of Medicine. He studied medicine at the University of Glasgow before training in internal medicine and rheumatology in Glasgow and at the NIH, Bethesda.  Professor McInnes obtained his PhD in Immunology and thereafter conducted post-doctoral studies in NIH and in Glasgow.

Professor McInnes has contributed substantial new knowledge to the field of cytokine biology and vascular co-morbidity in both RA and psoriatic arthritis. His work has been recognised in receipt of many prizes and lectureships including the Michael Mason prize 2001 and Droitwich lecture 2011, both from the British Society for Rheumatology, the Albrecht Hasinger Lectureship 2002, Berlin, Nana Swartz Lectureship 2008, Swedish Medical Association, the Feng Pao Hsii Lecture 2011 from the Singapore – Malaysian Society for Rheumatology and the Cochrane Lecturer in Alabama. He has published more than 150 articles in peer-reviewed journals and has given numerous plenary and invited lectures at EULAR and ACR Scientific Congresses.

Professor McInnes has served as vice-chair of the Medical Research Council Panel for Fellowships and Training and is Director of the Medical Research Council Scottish Clinical Pharmacology and Pathology Training Programme and Deputy Director of the Scottish Translational Medicine and Therapeutics Initiative. He is a previous chairman of the EULAR Scientific Committee, member of the ACR scientific committee and Chair of the EULAR Standing Committee for Clinical Affairs. He was elected a fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh in 2008, and a Fellow of the Academy of Medical Sciences in 2012.
   
Prof Raashid Luqmani

Professor of Rheumatology


Raashid qualified in 1982 (Nottingham University). He completed his medical rotation in North Staffordshire, and further rheumatology training in Southampton and Birmingham. He was first appointed consultant in Edinburgh 1994 and moved to Oxford as consultant and senior lecturer in 2005. He was awarded the title Professor of Rheumatology in 2011.

His clinical and research interests are in systemic vasculitis. Raashid is author of several papers and book chapters on vasculitis. He has also produced guidelines for management of rheumatoid arthritis for the British Society for Rheumatology and published more than 190 peer-reviewed papers. Raashid has been awarded research grants in vasculitis.

   
Dr Sanjeev Patel

Consultant Rheumatologist


Dr Sanjeev Patel qualified from the University of Southampton in 1984. He has worked in a variety of hospitals in England and in New Zealand. Following training in general internal medicine, Dr Patel specialised in rheumatology. He has particular expertise in metabolic bone diseases such as osteoporosis.
