Architectural Foundation of Cincinnati Honors
The Cincinnati Park Board and Director Willie F. Carden, Jr. with Alice and Harris Weston Apple Award
The Architectural Foundation of Cincinnati (AFC) will honor the Cincinnati Park Board and its Director, Willie F. Carden Jr., with the Alice and Harris Weston Apple Award. The Award honors their significant contributions to improving Cincinnati’s built environment through the development of and innovation in the Cincinnati Parks system. This year, AFC’s Apple Award Gala will take place on June 10, 2015.
The mission of the Cincinnati Board of Park Commissioners is "to conserve, manage, sustain, and enhance parks' natural and cultural resources and public greenspace for the enjoyment, enlightenment and enrichment of the Cincinnati community." Willie F. Carden, Jr. has worked for the City of Cincinnati for the past 28 years and has been serving as Director of Cincinnati Parks since July 2000.
The Architectural Foundation of Cincinnati grants the Apple Award annually to an entity or individual that exemplifies the foundation’s mission to increase and encourage improvement of the built environment of Greater Cincinnati.
The Gala event, which will be held Wednesday, June 10, 2015, at Anderson Pavilion at Smale Park, raises funds for the educational programs offered by AFC year round, including Design LAB: Learn and Build (formerly Architecture by Children), a school based program serving approximately 1,500 students annually.
Since 1982, AFC has enriched the Greater Cincinnati community by connecting people with the places they live, learn, work and play. Through programming and educational outreach, AFC inspires public engagement in shaping the built environment.
