Vogue Knitting LIVE Recap!
New York City - 2012
Thank you for another fantastic Vogue Knitting LIVE New York! We might have been in our hometown, but this “escape” into a weekend of yarn felt as if we were in another world! Exhausted as we were, we definitely did not want to leave when Monday’s afternoon sessions ended. The three days of classes, plus the two days of Marketplace shopping, went by in a flash!
The highlight of the show was our first-ever charity auction, in support of The Heart Truth, a national awareness campaign for women about heart disease sponsored by the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI), part of the National Institutes of Health, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). What a blast it was! We raised tens of thousands of dollars to donate to the program and thank everyone for their generosity. Bidding was fierce for several items, notably the set of Elizabeth Zimmermann’s own dpns, which went for more than $1,000. There were beautiful knitting kits, memorabilia, and more being bid on as we sipped cocktails and looked out on the city from our sky-high perch. It was a magical evening.
We were also treated to a phenomenal Gala Dinner sponsored by The Woolmark Company, where Alice Starmore regaled us with stories of her life in the The Outer Hebridean isles of Scotland and how the landscape there influences her knitting. With Woolmark in mind, we produced a special Vogue Knitting fashion show highlighting garments from our pages crafted in wool.
The Marketplace was packed during the two days of shopping at the more than 75 booths. At times it was completely mobbed! As well as shopping, there were fashion shows, demonstrations, a panel and so much more. And the classes! They were full of eager, amazing students—so say all our teachers—in their classes every day.
Thank you to everyone who joined us, to our fabulous teachers, and to our generous sponsors. The volunteers all did such a great job, too, and we thank them. Congratulations to my staff for their success after all the hard work!
We couldn’t be happier with our return to New York. We invite you to join us in Chicago this October, where we’ll do it all again in the Windy City, October 26–28 at the Palmer House Hilton Hotel. See you there!
