Vogue Knitting LIVE Recap!
Seattle—April 2013
Vogue Knitting LIVE’s first show in the Pacific Northwest was a resounding success! Thousands of knitters from all over the world came to learn from our stellar teachers, to shop the boutique marketplace, and, of course, to knit. Riders on the shuttle from the Hyatt Regency Bellevue Hotel to the Meydenbauer Convention Center chatted with each other about the new techniques they learned, purchases they made, and how the Gala Dinner was the event of the weekend!
Skacel Collection and addi Turbo sponsored the dinner, where the charming Thomas Selter, director of the addi company and factory in Altena, Germany, talked about the company’s venerable needles, and then we presented the Fastest Needles in the Northwest competition. Liisa Nieminen took home the top prize, beating out 2 other contestants as well as teachers Lily Chin, Amy Detjen, Brooke Nico, and Carol Sulcoski, clicking up 168 stitches knit in just 3 minutes. Afterward, a fashion show of stunning garments knit in Skacel yarns graced the runway. All the dinner attendees were lucky enough to take home a coveted addi diamond circular needle!
Models walked the runway all day Saturday in the fashion shows in the Marketplace to packed audiences. The last show of the day saw Vogue Knitting knit and crochet garments Paired with Eileen Fisher garments and accessories. Free demonstrations, panels, and lectures added to the experience while the vendor booths were buzzing with customers. Special Guest Artists showed off their creativity with yarn, and attendees could get in on the action, stringing up strands to add to a crowd-sourced work by Suzanne Tidwell. Before the Marketplace closed, Cascade Yarns cut down the rainbow of skeins hanging at the entrance to much excitement.
Thanks go out to all of our sponsors, teachers, volunteers, and staff for their tireless hard work making everything go smoothly. We’ll do it all again in Chicago at the Palmer House Hilton Hotel November 1–3, 2013, then in New York at The Marriott Marquis January 17–19, 2014. We hope to see you can join us!
