Dr. Hastings-Simon is an expert in energy, innovation, and climate policy; her work is focused on understanding how energy and industrial transitions happen within different sectors of the economy, and how policy responses can improve outcomes. She explores the role of incumbents and governments in development and deployment of new clean technologies, particularly within high carbon economies; the markets and policy structures that enable decarbonisation of electricity systems; and the response of firms to carbon pricing and other climate policy measures.

Carl has been involved in energy trading for the past fifteen years covering all aspects of brokerage, research and marketing. Carl
started his career trading Eurodollars on the floor of the Chicago Mercantile Exchange; he was Director of Futures Sales and Research for ABN AMRO and Barclays Capital in New York and has covered energy derivatives for Citigroup and Credit Suisse commodity desks in Houston, Texas where he's currently based. Carl founded the research and consulting group Oil Outlooks and Opinions in 2009.

Andrew Pederson has a B.A. in Economics from Pacific Lutheran University and a Master’s Degree in Taxation from the Sturm College of Law at the University of Denver.  He teaches Engineering Economics as an Associate Teaching Professor at Colorado School of Mines. He also works with John Stermole at Investment Evaluation Corporation, providing an in-house short course called Economic Evaluation and Investment Decision Methods to oil and gas, mining, and processing companies.  Andrew is a coauthor of the book Economic Evaluation and Investment Decision Methods by Stermole, Stermole, and Pederson; it is currently in its 16th Edition.
