Independent training provider perspective events
Date: Monday, 11 March 2013
Location: Weetwood Hall, Leeds (Past Event)
Overview:
Following on from the Wolf Review of Vocational Education and the subsequent public consultations held last year, the Department for Education (DfE) and AELP are to host a series of four regional events primarily for all independent training providers due to introduce 16-19 Study Programmes from September 2013.
The introduction of the Study Programmes represents a radical change to the way education and training is available to young people aged 16-19 years. Building on a track record of success in the way post 16 vocational education is delivered to young people, they represent a significant contribution to the Government's commitment to raising educational attainment and achievement.
From September 2013, this will mean providers delivering high quality personalised study programmes aimed at giving all 16-19 year olds the best opportunity to move into higher education or secure skilled employment through:
• High-quality work experience offerings focusing on developing their employability skills;
• The ability to continue study in English or maths beyond the age of 16;
• Provision for substantial qualifications with direct relevance to labour market needs
These one-day participative events offer an opportunity for all providers to engage in active discussions and to ask questions about the transition from Foundation Learning to Study Programmes. DfE will outline the principles of the Study Programmes, information about funding guidance for the new 16-19 programme, the performance criteria for measuring success and the demonstrative evidence of creating innovative opportunities for the young people.
Senior representatives from the Department for Education and Education Funding Agency will be attending the events and this is your opportunity to meet the policy makers, hear the latest updates and ask any relevant questions to help your organisation be prepared.
By the end of each event participants will have:
• A sound understanding of the principles of Study Programmes and of changes to funding, curriculum and performance measurement
• Identified the steps needed for the effective introduction of Study Programmes from September which will have been developed with other participants during the discussion groups and will result in a ‘Readiness Checklist’ for all attendees post event
