Overview

Governance in the further education and skills sector is pivotal to improving the quality of education and training for all learners and to the sustainability and success of each provider. However, governance is often misunderstood, especially in independent training providers, where good governance is often overlooked and weak governance frequently goes hand-in-hand with weak provision.

This workshop aims to support delegates to review governance in your organisation and to plan how to implement the new Code of Good Governance.

The objectives are:
  • review the current governance arrangements in your organisation
  • gain an overview of Ofsted’s judgements on governance in ITPs
  • understand the purpose and structure of the Code of Good Governance, including the core values and the seven themes
  • discuss how to make the Code relevant to your organisation, theme by theme
  • action plan the implementation of the Code for effective governance, including the use of AELP training materials
This workshop will help organisations to:
  • review your governance arrangements
  • plan how to make the Code relevant to your organisation
  • effectively implement the Code to ensure good governance

Target Audience

This event will be of interest to governors, trustees, or directors of independent training providers, or, where there is no governing body or board, those who are overall accountable for the quality of provision.
