Jonas Bruzas
Vice President & Chief Counsel Latin America, Mondelez International Inc.

As regional chief legal officer for Latin America, Jonas is responsible for managing broad variety of legal matters and the legal team in the region. He also handles broad range of cross-border international matters including corporate and commercial transactions, international tax and trade.

Prior to this assignment Jonas was a Chief Counsel Global Law based at global headquarters, where he represented the company in complex cross-regional transactions, such as mergers and acquisitions, divestitures, joint ventures, outsourcing and other significant multinational contract negotiations and implementation. He was also responsible for legal operations and outside counsel management strategy world-wide, knowledge and technology management, training systems for the global department.

Prior to moving to the global headquarters, Jonas was Senior Counsel CEEMA region in Europe, where he was responsible for providing legal support to regional business management in various functions, coordination of cross regional legal matters and merger and acquisition projects. Jonas has started with the company as a sales coordinator. Before assuming the position of the Chief Counsel Baltics in Lithuania, he worked as a country manager for Estonia and Latvia establishing Kraft Foods (former name of Mondelēz International) sales and marketing organizations in these countries. Before joining Kraft Foods, Jonas worked at legal departments of Baltijos TV and Lithuanian Cultural Foundation.

Jonas earned his master’s degree in law from the Vilnius University of Vilnius, Lithuania and LLM degree in U.S. Law from Loyola University Chicago School of Law, United States.
 
Roy Gonzalez
Lead Region Counsel, MasterCard International Incorporated

Roy Gonzalez is General Counsel for Mastercard’s Latin America & Caribbean Region. He is responsible for all legal, regulatory, compliance, franchise and anti-fraud efforts in the region. Roy leads a broad and dynamic team of 40 professionals consisting of market, product and regulatory lawyers, paralegals, lobbyists, compliance and AML personnel, and franchise and fraud personnel supporting Mastercard’s business in the Latin America & Caribbean Region.
 
Jose Martinez
General Counsel and Managing Director, Citi

Jose Martinez (Joe) is responsible for Citi’s legal matters in South America (ex-Brazil), reporting to the General Counsel of Latin America. He is also responsible for the coordination and oversight of all significant litigation and investigations in the region, as well as all administrative matters, managing an operating budget in excess of US$80MM and 250 employees in the region. Joe works closely with Citi's senior management in LATAM and NY, managing complex transactions with his team and advising on franchise, regulatory and other operational risks.
 
Mayda Prego
Senior Counsel, Negotiations and Legal, Chevron

Ms. Prego is a Senior Counsel in the Major Transactions Law Group, Chevron Upstream (a division of Chevron U.S.A. Inc.). Her responsibilities include negotiating and executing major international transactions (that include upstream and downstream mergers, acquisitions and divestitures, and joint ventures valued at over $150 million and new country entries). She also serves as General Counsel for the international joint venture Sasol Chevron Holdings Limited (SCHL) supporting the Gas to Liquids plant in Escravos, Nigeria. Her responsibilities as general counsel include providing legal counsel to the SCHL board of directors, managing legal matters for the joint venture’s operations, and general corporate and compliance matters. Ms. Prego is also experienced in complex international litigation and arbitration. Ms. Prego is a member of Chevron’s Law Function Diversity Council.

Mayda Prego has served as the President of the Hispanic National Bar Foundation, a 501(c) (3) organization dedicated to empowering the Hispanic community through education and impacting diversity in the legal profession.
 
Zamira Zapata Valdés
Legal & CC&E Director - Central America & Caribbean, FTZ-Border & Zacapa, DIAGEO

Zamira Zapata Valdés is the Vice President and General Counsel for Diageo’s Central America, Caribbean, Free-trade zone and Border business, and in addition to overseeing corporate security and brand protection, she leads the company’s compliance team in this region. She also plays a relevant role on the CCA Executive Committee and the Executive Committee for the Zacapa business.

Prior to this role, she was the VP and General Counsel for Diageo’s Mexico branch. During her assignment in Mexico she led the legal team, and was a key member of the Executive Committee and Secretary of the Board of Directors of the Mexican companies.

Before joining Diageo she was the Legal Corporate Director in Genomma Lab, a leading Mexican public company in the pharmaceutical and personal care products segment, with an increasing international presence in the U.S.A. and Latin-America. Zamira has also worked for Mexico’s federal government. Later she served as Head of the Unit for Promotion of Trade and Investment at the Ministry of Economy.

 
Fernando C. Alonso
Partner, Hunton Andrews Kurth

Fernando has practiced in the corporate and securities, banking and finance fields for more than 25 years. He is chairman of the firm’s Latin American and Iberian practice group.

His clients include a broad range of publicly owned and privately held US and foreign companies and financial institutions. Fernando has been involved in numerous significant mergers and acquisition, joint ventures and other business transactions, including those involving cross-border complexities.

His practice involves representation of both financial institutions and companies in connection with equity and debt financings. He has structured and directed numerous private equity deals. Fernando has been involved in the structuring of several public/private partnerships, privatizations and government contracts and concessions. He regularly represents foreign clients in connection with US acquisitions, as well as domestic companies in connection with their international expansion.

Fernando has particular experience in the energy, infrastructure and telecommunications sectors. Before commencing his practice, he served as a judicial clerk for the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York.
