9:30 am - 11:30 amGoodwill’s Heritage – Revolutionary Leaders and Ideas

Facilitated by Jim Stiff, President & CEO, Goodwill Industries of Middle Georgia and the CSRA

Goodwill is rich with leaders who had revolutionary ideas that has shaped the social enterprise it is today. Even the newest executive in the Goodwill ranks knows that Dr. Helms was credited with many revolutionary ideas as the founder of Goodwill.  But the collective Goodwill memory is quickly fading and not being conveyed to the new generation of Goodwill leaders in a way that ensures Goodwill’s exciting and groundbreaking legacy is not only preserved, but continually developed in the minds of this new generation of leadership.

Stories of leaders such as Trevethan with the Washington Training School, Clore and the early international initiatives,  King and his emphasis on management and business skills, Adair and the vision for branch operations, Watkins and the advent of professional membership services, Pouliot and the Goodwill/Easter Seals mergers, Jerry Stickney and the Attendant Collection Center concept and Robins with the “least cost” method of  producing and selling contributed goods that grew the Goodwill enterprise from a dilapidated chapel in the Boston South end to the expansive multi-national organization it is today need to be remembered, recorded and passed on for generations to come.  This session will give everyone the opportunity to celebrate and reflect on the contributions of these leaders.

Come learn about Goodwill’s past, present and future activities around ‘going green’. Since the inception of the program, Goodwill members have decreased their waste to landfill, built LEED and green buildings, created green jobs, and implemented profitable e-cycling programs. In the future, we are looking to accomplish even more. We need your input to ensure that this program continues to be a success.  Join us to celebrate accomplishments, but also to help us move forward into the future and ensure that this program meets your needs.  This session will include small-group round table discussions on green topics, with opportunity for Q&A.

Learn about Goodwill’s ‘green’ past, current accomplishments, and future plans. As a result of this session, participants will:

  • Obtain an overview of past activities prior to the Going Green Initiative and of major accomplishments since the inception of the program
  • Learn about future programs, including the 2012 Energy Challenge, waste reduction goals, and the Goodwill Green Guidelines.

·         What does it mean to be a "member in good standing," and what are the consequences for members who are not in good standing?

·         Better alignment of the Termination of Membership provision in the GII Bylaws (Article III, Section 9) and the membership standards concern review process as outlined in the Continuing Organizational Membership Standards Policy

During COE, you will hear the latest update of the committee's work, including the ways in which member input gleaned during feedback sessions at the 2011 Delegate Assembly, as well as two webinars conducted in August and September 2011, was incorporated into the current draft.  Following that update, the feedback session is being offered for you to ask questions and provide additional input before the amended documents are presented to the Delegate Assembly for vote in June 2012.
