Assessing Ventilation Using Balometers, CO2, and PM 2.5

Learning Objectives

Thursday, September 28th: Assessing Ventilation Using Balometers

At the completion of this activity, the learner will be able to:

  • Summarize existing ventilation guidance including CDPH Interim Guidance for Ventilation, Filtration, and Air Quality for Indoor Environments; ASHRAE; and Cal/OSHA COVID-19 Prevention Emergency Temporary Standards
  • Establish a framework to assess building, office, and school ventilation risk, and to identify ventilation vulnerabilities
  • Use balometers to collect ventilation data and to calculate air changes per hour (ACH)
  • Describe how ACH relates to the removal of airborne contaminants
  • Assess, analyze, and communicate ventilation risk and mitigation recommendations

Friday, September 29th: Assessing Ventilation Using CO2 & PM 2.5

At the completion of this activity, the learner will be able to:

  • Summarize the Cal/OSHA Protection from Wildfire Smoke Standard
  • Use carbon dioxide decay to calculate ACH and percent outdoor air (%OA)
  • Use PM 2.5 decay to calculate %OA and evaluate filtration efficiency
  • Discuss ventilation assessment methodologies, appropriate use cases, and safety considerations
  • Assess, analyze, and communicate ventilation risk and mitigation recommendations
