Event Description:

Please join COEH UC Berkeley and UC Davis for COEH Builds Bridges: Warehouses, Wildfires, and Workplace Injuries.

The COEH Builds Bridges symposium was launched in 2017, and rotates biannually between Berkeley and Sacramento. This year's event is a merger of the 42nd Annual UC Berkeley Lela Morris Symposium and 38th Annual UC Davis Occupational and Environmental Medicine Symposium.

The symposium will begin with a keynote presentation by Douglas Parker, Chief of the Division of Occupational Safety and Health at the California Labor and Workforce Development Agency, to set the stage on emerging hazards. In the morning, learners will explore warehouse health hazards, including indoor heat and the occupational health effects of trucking. After lunch, we will delve into health risks associated with wildfires, including long-term health effects of career USFS Wildland Firefighters, community exposures to wildfire smoke, and the link between wildfires and benzene contamination of drinking water. The activity will include research presentations, panel discussions, and ample opportunities for Q&A.

Day two of the symposium will explore current topics in occupational and environmental medicine. The Center for Occupational and Environmental Health at UC Davis offers this annual symposium to clinicians as a part of its mission to disseminate new knowledge related to occupational health and policy. This program is designed to improve provider competence in the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of worker-related injuries with the intention of improving health outcomes for California workers.

Audience:

Day one of the symposium is intended for occupational and environmental health and safety professionals including registered environmental health specialists, industrial hygienists, certified safety professionals, occupational health nurses, and other allied health professionals.

Day two of the symposium is intended for clinicians including MD, DO, Nurse Practitioners, Physician Assistants, Registered Nurses, and allied health professionals including those in the occupational medicine, family medicine, internal medicine, and emergency medicine disciplines.
