2019 BASC Symposium

2019 BASC Symposium
April 4 - April 5, 2019
David Brower Center, Berkeley, CA

Event Description

Please join us for the 2019 Berkeley Atmospheric Sciences Center Symposium, held in honor of Professor Inez Fung’s career and 70th birthday, and in celebration of the 20th anniversary of the founding of BASC. The Symposium will take place April 4-5, 2019 in McCone Hall on the UC Berkeley campus and the David Brower Center in Berkeley.

The event kicks off with an opening talk by Professor Fung that is open to the public and co-hosted by the Department of Earth and Planetary Science, on Thursday, April 4, 2019 at 4 pm in 141 McCone Hall. The symposium continues all day on April 5, 2019 at the David Brower Center in downtown Berkeley, with a series of sessions focusing on emerging questions in four major thematic areas of Professor Fung’s work:  paleoclimate, the land carbon sink, the hydrological cycle, and atmospheric chemistry. Registration is required for the second day of the symposium.

The goal of the annual BASC Symposium is to foster interaction among the community of atmospheric science researchers and students from UC Berkeley and surrounding institutions. This year, alumni from BASC and Professor Fung’s group are especially encouraged to attend, regardless of their geographic location. As always, we invite participants from around the San Francisco Bay Area including (but not limited to) UC Berkeley, UC Davis, UC Santa Cruz, Stanford, San Francisco State University, San Jose State University, NASA Ames, Lawrence Berkeley National Lab, Lawrence Livermore National Lab, SRI, USGS, Bay Area Air Quality Management District, US Environmental Protection Agency, and the California Air Resources Board. We especially encourage students and postdocs to participate and present posters .
